Innovative Variety Show Celebrates Star Wars Day

Paul Anthony’s Talent Time has been putting on really unique and innovative shows every month for nine and a half years. I have no idea how Paul and his team do it so consistently, but they show no signs of stopping. Tonight they take on one of the most popular film franchise of all time. Sure, many people have done Star Wars tributes before but with Talent Time’s reputation, I bet this will be special.

They are billing it as a variety show from Jabba the Hutt's Palace that includes Darth Vader performing observational stand-up comedy and a sample of the "Empire Strips Back" burlesque from The Geekenders.  A fan favourite, middle-aged teen pop singer I,Kandee premieres his song, "Do Me, or Not Do Me (There Is No Try)" and bright young comic Harris Anderson entertains.

In the talk show portion of the show there will be a real-life astrologer answering questions about the stars and a Muay Thai demonstration from Franco Kickboxing. Presumably these 2 acts are on the bill just so Paul and co-host Ryan Beil can make jokes about “warring stars” and puns about Thai Fighters.  There will also be an audience light saber battle for prizes, the house band will be made up to look like the characters from the Star Wars Cantina and I saw an intriguingly hilarious Jabba the Hutt costume on their social media.

If you have experienced their show live, you know this is not to be missed. If you have never seen the show you can check out clips and full episodes on their website. There are only 2 shows left in the 9th season. Seats are only $12 and although it’s always really packed, I’ve never been turned away because of over capacity. Not sure how much longer that will be the case, so get down to Paul Anthony’s Talent Time at the Rio Theatre before it's too late. Thursday May the 4th. 7pm doors, 8pm show.
