Ce Soir Noir Returns to Crab Park TONIGHT!

Tonight (August 24th), at 5:00pm, visual artists Graeme Berglund and George Vergette invite the public to experience Ce Soir Noir, a community picnic event in East Vancouver’s Crab Park.

The “goth picnic”, which both rivals and pokes fun at Vancouver’s Diner en Blanc is back for its third year tonight at Crab Park. The concept is simple: bring food, drink and a blanket to sit on, wear black, and gather with friends for an evening of music and good conversation.

Founders Graeme and George never had any intention of making the “barely-organized event” and annual occurrence, but requests by friends and strangers prompted the organizers to bring it back for (at least) one more go. When reflecting upon the event, it’s easy to see why it’s become just so well-loved by the community.

"As artists, we are interested in the cultural community of Vancouver," says Berglund. "Ce Soir Noir was born from the idea of creating a massive public installation in black, but has quickly become something more meaningful: a catalyst for dialogue around culture and inclusivity in Vancouver.”

Backpack Buddies, a non-profit organization that supplies food to children in need in the Downtown Eastside, will be on-site to accept donations in the form of either cash or kid-friendly non-perishable food.
