Every once in a while I take on an assignment that I almost feel guilty for because it's just so good that I fear people might hate me for it. This was one of those assignments.
BCLC tasked me with going to Metropolis at Metrotown equipped with $1,000, spending it on whatever I wanted (!!!), then reporting back. As I'm not an insane person I was more than happy to oblige, spending two hours living the "grand life" as they call it, getting a small taste of what the winner of their Daily Grand $50,000 Shopping Spree Contest is in for. True to its name, Daily Grand is a national lottery game that offers two unique top prizes - $1,000 a day for life, and $25,000 a year for life. And “for life” really means for the rest of your life.
Now before you get mad, know that there could be something in this for you, so keep reading.
Sorry, no unboxing video
I spent 2 hours hitting up most of my favourite shops. Here's where I spent the cash:
$255 at Uniqlo, netting 7 days' worth of boxer briefs, some sweatshirts, tshirts and flannels.
$101 at Toys R Us, grabbing a Nerf gun and a Lego set for my son.
$40 at Kernels on 5 big bags of popcorn, because popcorn.
$165 at Mark Anthony Group's Wine Shop on the most expensive bottle of BC-produced wine they had in stock. It's a bottle of 2012 Mission Hill Ocolus, which uses the top 2% of the winery's grapes every year.
$32 at Rocky Mtn Chocolate on a Smashing Pumpkin - a massive chocolate pumpkin that is full of caramel corn, which you smash open.
$70 at Calendar Club + Go on a Settlers of Catan board game.
$321 at Muji where I picked up the bean bag chair I've been eyeing up since they opened.
The remaining $16 I spent on lunch in the food court. DONE!
