Vancouver police, fire and emergency services are reminding the public to keep a few safety tips in mind heading into Halloween night.

“We want drivers to slow down and pay attention,” said Const. Jason Doucette, adding that excited trick-or-treaters might forget to look before crossing the street.

Costumes with weapons, such as replica handguns, hatchets and swords, have posed a problem for police in the past, he said, and officers must respond to any reports of someone with a weapon. Doucette recommended making sure any costume weapons are readily identifiable as an imitation.

Police and Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services are also reminding that public that fireworks are only permitted on Oct. 31.
