$17.8M 'fixer-upper' is Vancouver's most expensive new listing (PHOTOS)

The heritage mansion at 3690 Selkirk Drive was Metro Vancouver’s highest-priced new real estate listing of October 16-22.

It's got seven bedrooms and six bathrooms, and will cost you $17.8 million, but this 105-year-old Vancouver home could be considered a bit of a "fixer-upper."

The 7,200-plus-square-foot heritage mansion at 3690 Selkirk Drive in First Shaughnessy was Metro Vancouver’s highest-priced new real estate listing of October 16-22.

Realtor Jeff Benna's listing indicates that the sale presents an opportunity to "renovate" the Victorian charmer, but it's hard to tell just what needs work.

That's because the description indicates there's "elegant millwork throughout" and the kitchen and laundry were "updated a few years ago," but the only photos provided are of the exterior and landscaping. (The listing data shows it was partly renovated in 2009.)

By the way, the estimated monthly mortgage for a place of this price is around $62,000 a month.

This particular home has had some trouble selling; in early 2016 it hit the market at $18.8 million, didn't sell, and returned four months later at $21 million.

The home was once one of three owned by Walter Nelson of Nelson Bottling Works and his wife Irene Maccaud Nelson. Maccaud Nelson later moved to her farm in White Rock, and she and Walter endured an acrimonious divorce and legal battle around the time you'll find photos of the house in the Vancouver Archives.

Considered one of White Rock's colourful characters, Irene Maccaud Nelson died in 1979. She's the "Maccaud" of the community's Maccaud Park.

So once again this luxury property is making headlines--and at a bargain! Feel like taking on a project?
