'Fox and the Whale' is one of 10 animated short films currently being considered for Oscar nominations. Last week it was announced that the Salt Spring Island inspired film had advanced to the Academy's voting phase and that the five official nominees would be announced on January 23, 2018.

The film is described as "a tale of longing and discovery", where a curious fox goes in search of an elusive whale.

The film was independently financed for $40,000 from Robin Joseph's personal savings and made in his at-home studio. The 90th annual Academy Awards takes place March 4, 2018.
