Two people were arrested outside a Vancouver restaurant Thursday night following an alleged assault in Richmond.

Vancouver police spokesman Const. Jason Doucette said the department received the call from Richmond RCMP at around 9 p.m. Thursday reporting that officers were on the lookout for a vehicle and several suspects following an assault at a Richmond pub.

He said Vancouver officers located the vehicle at the White Spot restaurant on S E Marine Drive.

“It was unoccupied at the time that we got there,” Doucette said, adding that the department’s emergency response team was also called in.

“We were able to safely take two individuals into custody and arrest them in relation to the Richmond RCMP file,” he said. Officers also located a firearm during the arrest.

Doucette said officers were working with the information that there were four or five people involved and went into the restaurant in an attempt to identify any other suspects.

“At least two other people were briefly detained within the White Spot, they were identified and it was quickly determined that they were not in any way associated to the offense under investigation,” Doucette said.

At around 8 p.m. Thursday, a man wielding a rifle and concealed by a balaclava stormed into the Pioneer's Pub in Richmond and attacked a suspected drug dealer, according to an eyewitness account.

The witness told the Richmond News the gunman did not fire any shots but proceeded to target one patron and then seriously assault him with his weapon.

Prior to the assault the event at the pub had been a family-friendly affair with people gathering for a memorial, according to several accounts on social media.

When the gunman entered, one man yelled out, “he’s got a gun,” and patrons scrambled to the floor.
