Taking place from February 23 to 25, 2018 at the Rio Theatre, the VBAFF is in its fourth year. The programming offers film fans a melange of "new films from maverick film legends old and new" and live shows and interactive sessions--and a party to kick things off.

The truly independent is what is celebrated at the Badass film fest. The fest will include a tribute to Canadian indie filmmaker Larry Kent. Kent's 1963 feature shot while a UBC student, "The Bitter Ash," was banned when it came out, but has since been named as one of the best Canadian films of all time. Additionally, Kent will screen the B.C. premiere of his feature "She Who Must Burn," and accept a lifetime achievement awards for his half-century plus film career.

The full schedule includes showings of shorts from Canada and abroad, as well as other exciting debut programming; the full schedule is available online. Emcees for this unique film fest event include Samantha Mack, Tristan Risk, Gidget Gravedigger, and Mister Nickel.
