It’s that time of year! Wesbrook Village will host their annual Lunar New Year event on Saturday February 17, 2018.

Wesbrook Village will celebrate the year of the dog with free festivities and entertainment, perfect for families, adults and students alike.

What to Expect

A traditional lion dance will start at Norman Mackenzie Square at 12:30pm. Watch as it dances, shakes and weaves its way through the community, collecting offerings from neighbouring shops and getting the whole community ready to celebrate.

Starting at 2:00pm, there will also be a number of free performances and activities at the Wesbrook Community Centre including Chinese Folk Dance, Korean drumming, Tai Kwan Do demonstration, fortune telling, tea tasting (with Murchie’s Fine Tea) and more.

Year of the Dog

Also known as the spring festival, the Lunar Year celebrates the turn of the Chinese calendar. This year’s festivities will celebrate the 11th animal in the zodiac calendar, the dog. Those born under the dog sign are said to be honest, loyal and reliable. Sounds like a good friend to us.

Getting There

Located south of West 16th Avenue and bounded by Pacific Spirit Regional Park and UBC Farm, Wesbrook Village is made up of a collection of shops and residences nestled in a forest on the University of British Columbia’s Vancouver campus. Parking at Wesbrook Village is free and the community is on the number 41 bus route.

The daytime event is a fantastic and convenient way to introduce kids to Lunar New Year celebrations and a convenient way to get your family in on the fun. Hope to see you there!
