City staff, with the help of a professional tea master, will be offering hot tea and snacks from a street cart. In addition to the refreshments, city staff will share information and take questions and feedback on several upcoming initiatives including:

  • Proposed updates to development policies to protect Chinatown’s unique characteristics.
  • A city apology for historical discrimination against Chinese people in Vancouver and Chinatown Cultural Day.
  • The creation of a long-term plan to protect and grow Chinatown’s living heritage and culture.

“The City has been working with the Chinatown community to support revitalization in this important historic and cultural neighbourhood through public realm improvements and community and economic development projects to support existing businesses and generate investment in the neighbourhood,” states a city press release.

The pop-up events are planned for Saturday, March 24 from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. in front of 188 East Pender St. and Tuesday, March 27 from 3:30-6 p.m. in front of 127 East Pender St.
