Last March we shared the story of a local filmmaker named Greg Durrell who launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise money to produce a film called Design Canada.

The campaign was a resounding success, garnering $99,000USD ($123,000CDN) from 1,483 backers. The film has been in post-production for the past few months and is nearly complete.

We haven't seen the final edit yet but based on the subject matter (nobody has ever made a film about this important piece of Canada), the work we've seen from it so far, and the film's producer and executive producer (who both worked on the film 'Helvetica'), it's safe to say this will be the next Helvetica.

Today they released the trailer and announced the dates for upcoming screenings. The website also launched at designcanada.com.

The film will be premiering at Hot Docs in Toronto on June 13th, then screening at the Rio Theatre in Vancouver on June 28th. Watch the trailer below and get tickets HERE.

Disclosure: After the Kickstarter campaign launched I was brought on as an Associate Producer of Design Canada. I'm not being paid for my work in this role - I simply loved the concept and the director's vision and drive, and wanted to see the film get made - but figured it should be mentioned.
