This "Great British Tea Party" is perfect for Vancouverites with Royal fever

Notch8 at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver has launched a Great British Tea Party afternoon tea, and it's perfect for everyone who is doing some keen royals watching.

For the past couple of years, Notch8 at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver has been putting on dazzling themed afternoon tea spreads. From their epic Canada 150 gourmet feast to fairy tales, Hollywood glamour, and a tribute to board games, the creative minds at the historic downtown hotel have been coming up with some gems.

Now Notch8 has launched their Great British Tea Party, and it's perfect for everyone who is doing some keen royals watching as we get ready to welcome Will and Kate's third child, and see Prince Harry marry Meghan Markle.

For the Great British Tea Party, Notch8 is pulling out all the stops: Vintage décor, bunting, Union Jacks, and a red telephone booth can be found in the restaurant's Private Dining Room. Meanwhile, take a gander at imagery from previous Royal Weddings projected on a special screen.

For the tea service, kick things off with a pot of Fairmont's LOT 35 Creamy Earl Grey tea. Nibble on a creamy, berry-filled Eton Mess, then tuck into raisin scones with Devonshire Cream and strawberry jam. Notch8 is keeping it classically British on the tea tier for the finger sandwiches, including Coronation Chicken, roast beef and stilton, and egg salad.

Sweet treats include UK-inspired goodies made by their in-house pastry team: Victoria sponge cake roll, Bakewell tart, Battenberg cake, Earl Grey shortbread and a lemon bar on a vanilla bean sable.

As always, Notch8 offers a kid-friendly version of tea service, and can handle gluten-free and vegetarian or vegan requests with advance notice.

The Hotel Vancouver has a decades-long tie to the royals; King George VI and Queen Elizabeth opened the hotel in May 1939 and dined on a celebratory lunch there. Over the years, there have been visits by Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Margaret, and Fairmont Hotels across Canada have been their home away from home on official visits, says the hotel.

The Great British Tea Party afternoon tea runs from now through September 3, 2018, with daily sittings at 11 am,  1 pm, and 3 pm. Adults $65, Children $32.5 (ages 12 & under). Reservations are strongly encouraged and can be made by phone at 604-662-1900, or online. Notch8 is located at 900 West Georgia Street.
