Van City Kitty: Meet Gordon!

May 16, 2013

A new kitty once a week! Click here to find out how your cat can appear on Van City Kitty.

Here are the deets on Gordon, submitted by VIA reader : Christine J!

Name: Gordon. AKA: Mayor of Jerktown, Mista Lova Lova, “The Guy”
…
Breed/Colouring: A standard and perfect grey
…
Hood: West End
…

Habits: Gordon has very strict rules against privacy, and enforces compliance by headbutting open any closed doors as well as dashing to the apartment door to listen in on any hallway drama. He also enjoys kneading necks, chirping at birds and squirrels, knocking valuables off of any surface when he is hungry, and intensely staring at his people while they sleep. He occasionally will poop the bathtub, drool, and give morning snuggles. Possibly in that order.

Hangouts: The balcony, drawers, boxes, bags, window sills, and the cardboard boxes that mason jars come in.

Favorite Things: Belly zerberts, hide and seek, feathers, bottle caps, pens, and popping out of the laundry basket like a jack-in-the-box.   He most favorite is when the mail-person slides mail through the mail slot (this is most exciting!)

Least Favorite thing: Paper! He hates when Christine has to write papers.

Other Info: Gordon is 2.5 years old and has been a house kitty since birth. Often he can be seen sitting backwards on the kitchen chairs (a la AC Slater) like a “cool guy” and watching his people cook.

The cool guy himself:

Van City Kitty: Meet Mr. Lovenstuff

May 8, 2013

A new kitty once a week! Click here to find out how your cat can appear on Van City Kitty.

Here are the deets on Mr. Lovenstuff, submitted by VIA reader : Megan K!

Name: Mr. Lovenstuff
…
Breed/Colouring: Orange Tabby
…
Hood: Marpole / South Van
…

Habits: Sleeping on shoes, sleeping on or in boxes, fitting into tight parking spaces, cleaning and snuggling Link,  flirting with men, licking plastic bags, sleeping in odd places, yawning, trying to blend in with our hardwood floors, posing for pictures and eating.

Hangouts: On top of things! Cardboard boxes of any size, the arm rests of the sofa, shoes, boxes, pillows… And sometimes even on top of Link; his lover.

Favorite Things: Food, Link, plastic bags, cardboard boxes and shoes!

Other Info: Mr. Lovenstuff came into the lives of his people through sad circumstances; his beloved owner had passed away. Supposedly his former owner’s final words were, “take care of Lovenstuff,” and so they did, and will continue to do so for the rest of his days. He was adopted through Meowaid back in 2011 when he weighed a whopping 25lbs. Mr. Lovenstuff has since been placed on a diet and weighs a firm 19lbs. He has greatly enriched his people’s lives and has the world’s best purr. Megan sometimes wonders if his full name isn’t Mr. Lovenstuff Motorboat. Mr. Lovenstuff is a gentle and regal senior cat at 15 years old who still has lots of flair and killer style.
Mr. Lovenstuff Motorboat is the buddy of Link!

In his natural habitat:

Van City Kitty: Meet Link!

May 1, 2013

A new kitty once a week! Click here to find out how your cat can appear on Van City Kitty.

Here are the deets on Link, submitted by VIA reader : Megan K!

Name:  Link
…
Breed/Colouring:  Black Domestic Shorthair
…
Hood:  Marpole / South Van
…

Habits: Jumping into Paper Bags, Making holes in box springs and sofa’s, bathing the dog, being bathed by the dog, eating miscellaneous pieces of model airplanes, hiding his collar, snuggling with his lover Mr. Lovenstuff, stealing the bathtub stopper and mutilating anything with feathers.

Hangouts: Anyone’s lap especially if they are allergic to cats, the bed, on top of the dog, on feet in the bathroom, in the hole he made in the box spring, in the hole he made in the sofa and everywhere else he shouldn’t be.

Favorite Things: Feathers, tongue baths, the can opener, paper bags, anything he can hide in, and under the dishwasher

Other Info: Megan fostered Link as a Kitten with his sisters through VOKRA last summer, and his quirkiness and curiosity won her over! She says, ” I just couldn’t part with him.”

Link contemplates the logistics for making a hole in the window:

Buddies!

Van City Kitty: Take Me Home Edition! Meet Carole!

April 25, 2013

A new kitty once a week! Click here to find out how your cat can appear on Van City Kitty.

Every month we feature a few kitties who are looking for their forever home. Today we have an adoptable Himalayan from Katie’s Place!

Katie’s Place is a volunteer-run no-kill animal shelter in Maple Ridge. Two principals guide them: all life is valuable, and we are responsible for improving the quality of life for all those in our care.

They make no judgment on whose life is worth rescuing; the sick, elderly and homely are as precious as the healthy, young and attractive. Katie’s Place started helping animals in January of 2001 and became a registered charity in 2005.

Katie’s Place funding comes entirely from donations, fundraising and applying for grants. The funds go directly to animal care. Less than 3% is spent on admin/maintenance (eg. phone, bank charges, insurance). They are entirely volunteer run.

Learn more about Katie’s Place here.

CAROLE

Carole is a tiny little fluff ball with a big personality. There are some people she will completely ignore (as cats are prone to do) and there are other people though that bring out an entirely different side of Carole!

A Katie’s Place volunteer recently witnessed Carole flirting like crazy with one male visitor. She couldn’t do enough to get his attention and once she had it – well! She was batting those baby blues, prancing around and purring up a storm.
Sometimes Carole hides during visiting hours if things get too hectic, but be sure to seek her out. It could be love at first sight – for both of you!

Will Carole be your new buddy?

Van City Kitty: Meet Hornby!

April 17, 2013

A new kitty once a week! Click here to find out how your cat can appear on Van City Kitty.

Here are the deets on Hornby, submitted by VIA reader : Carmen W!

Name: Hornby (aka “The Dude”)
…
Breed/Colouring: Grey tabby on top, white on the bottom
…
Hood: He came from Surrey and found his forever home in New Westminster
…

Habits: Lying across door jambs, sleeping on his back, cuddling against legs while people are watching TV, trying in fit on laps (he’s a big boy, and he sometimes falls off,) jumping onto the tiny window ledge in Carmen’s office to look out at the world, sitting on the living room rug to indicate that he wants playtime, and TALKING (he sure likes to talk!)

Hangouts:  His people’s/his bed, Carmen’s desk chair when she’s not in it, the futon in the media room.

Favorite Things: Any edible that contains fish or seafood (VOKRA trapped him at a fish processing plant.) When not playing energetically with his Cat Dancer mouse he also loves cuddles, head/chin/cheek scritches and belly rubs. He also like to explore and accompany his humans around the house. His favorite show is Game of Thrones.

Other Info: He weighs almost 15 pounds (no fat, all muscle) and has huge paws. He makes adorable Marge Simpson noises when he’s happy. He was on the street for quite a while and he must have gotten into a few fights, because one of his ears has several notches (it gives him character.) He also had a nasty scratch on his nose when he was trapped, but it’s mostly healed now. The folks at the VOKRA Surrey TNR Centre named him after the British author Nick Hornby, who wrote “High Fidelity” and “About a Girl.”

From wandering alone in a fish processing plant to rolling around on a cozy bed in a matter of days!

Van City Kitty: Meet Freckle!

April 10, 2013

A new kitty once a week! Click here to find out how your cat can appear on Van City Kitty.

This week, Freckle submitted himself!

(I think he had a little help from VIA reader, Ashley B. though..)

Name:Freckle, but my frends also call me Freckly, Frecks, Tinks, Tinky Winky, and Plopper Plopperton.

.…..

Breed/Colouring: I’m part tiger (that’s what my Mom tells me!)

…

Hood: South Granville

Habits: I’m a big-boned boy, so I love to eat. I also cat-call at all the birds as they fly by.

Hangouts: My cat palace, my mom’s favorite pillow, and right at the doorway (I once was a bouncer back in my days at the Kitty Shack, so I know what happens when you accidentally let shady characters in! I keep my family safe.)

.

Favorite Things: I like simplicity, so a string will keep me happy. So will cuddles and belly rubs…

Other Info: I was roaming the streets of Vancouver before I was picked up by VOKRA and eventually settled in with my human Mom; Ashley.

Here is one of my favorite spots!
