Obscura Day 2012 – Caves as Portals: Exploring the Grotto Beneath Ting Mountain

April 30, 2012

Obscura Day was this past Saturday and the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden opened up the caves in Ting Mountain to the public for the first time…

Stepping into Vancouver’s Chinese Garden, beyond the white walls, is an experience unto itself – you’ll find yourself carried back in time and space to a 15th century Ming Dynasty scholar’s home, an oasis in the heart of Vancouver.

Caves have traditionally been thought of as transportational dwelling places of immortal or otherworldly beings. For the first time ever, on Obscura Day, join us for an hour-long guided tour to explore the stories and mythologies that enforce the mysterious call of the grotto.

It’s hard to describe the beauty of the caves and the feeling you have when entering a place very few people ever have. I’ll let the photos speak for themselves.

Thanks to Atlas Obscura and the Chinese Gardens for having us on this historic and awesome day…already looking forward to next year!

Reimagine The CBC Celebration

April 30, 2012

I’m sure you’ve heard about this by now but I wanted to remind you of this awesome event happening a week from today: Reimagine The CBC Celebration

Why is it awesome? Well, for one, I’m part of it. That’s right come see me, as well as Ivan Coyote and Wade Davis (!!!), tell stories of how the CBC has changed our lives. And then hear panel discussions on the future of the CBC. OH and then there is a giant super group of Vancouver musicians performing.

More information is here on the FB event page, and you can get tickets here.

New at Oru

April 29, 2012

ORU! The amazing restaurant in the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel revamped it entire menu (and restaurant) and invited myself and some other Vancouver bloggers to check it out.
We first stopped in the Skybar lounge to sample from that menu, then took a tour of the restaurant and kitchens, then sat down to an amazing feast! Check it all out after the jump!
