UNSPOKEN CHARITY ART SHOW

September 23, 2009

I came across this flyer while waiting for a latte at my local Starbucks. It sounds like a great event – an art show and silent auction featuring various local artists, taking place at The FALL Tattooing & Artist’s Gallery.

Entry is by donation with all proceeds going to the BC Cancer Foundation.

BARKING BABIES DOG BOUTIQUE

September 11, 2009

Barking Babies in Yaletown is one of those stores almost too cute for words.  They single handedly converted me from the “dogs don’t need clothes, they have fur!” persuasion to full-fledged dog dresser-upper. Who could possibly resist pin-up girl collars, hoodies with ears, and AC/DC tees?

On Wednesday, September 30th from 6-8PM, Barking Babies hosts their Glitter Gala where they will be previewing the newest doggie fashions for fall, complete with chamPAWgne.  10% of all sales will be donated to an animal rescue organization.

Cruise Vancouver

August 30, 2009

One of the most epic ways to see Vancouver is by boat.  For under 70 bucks a person, you get a 4 hour coastal mountain fjord cruise from Coal Harbor up Indian Arm.  The cruise includes a catered buffet luncheon and commentary pointing out some of the raddest and most beautiful scenery this city has to offer.

A few cool highlights include McBarge, the floating McDonald’s restaurant once featured at Expo 86 that now sits empty and anchored near the Burnaby oil refineries, Vancouver’s abandoned power station, a picturesque mountain waterfall, and a completely solar-powered house that was featured on the Discovery Channel.

For more info, check out Harbour Cruises.

Going to the Dogs

August 26, 2009

Vancouver is such a dog-friendly city. I was pretty amused when I came across this gem in Deep Cove. Woof, indeed.

Oh, dear!

August 22, 2009

On my way to get my morning coffee, I came across a local deer family that hangs around outside of a small church in North Van. They were just chilling, gazing, when I pulled the truck over to take a few snapshots. The father (dude with the antlers) watched me like a hawk to ensure that I didn’t get too close to his fawn.

Between this and the two black bear sightings that I had last week, I’m once again reminded why Vancouver is so incredible – all of its amazing wildlife!
