AARON HAROWITZ: HARDLY WORKIN’

February 27, 2010

This is a great contrast to my cubicle, my minimalism is due to my complete lack of interest, Aaron Harowitz’s is by design, it looks much better.

Send us your pics of your workspace and you surfin’ VIA to choy@vancouverisawesome.com and we’ll post ‘em to show at least for that moment, like me, you’re : Hardly Workin’

STUPID BOB QUESTION: OLYMPIC EDITION 2

February 24, 2010

When did the bobsled become bobsleigh and why?  Bob’s usually the one asking the dumb questions but in this case…. I’m hoping that he’s the expert in all things ‘Bob’…..Bob?

This is what happens when you have no accompanying photo…..

LEESIDE!

February 23, 2010

Since the inception of VIA, there’s been all sorts of things that have gone on at Leeside.  This video though gives the most comprehensive history and significance of the spot.

Hopefully this video will inspire you to go and check it out, even if you don’t skate or paint, it’s an amazing use of space.

CAITLIN : HARDLY WORKIN’

February 20, 2010

Here’s a photo of Caitlin’s desk while she surf’s VIA.  Not sure what the ‘It’s wrong to be French is about’, but I suspect I’m one of dozens who have asked the same question.

Send us your pics of your workspace and you surfin’ VIA to choy@vancouverisawesome.com and we’ll post ‘em to show at least for that moment, like me, you’re : Hardly Workin’!

NEW BENKEI OPENING SOON!

February 19, 2010

I happily stumbled across this on the weekend, a new Benkei!  I love my noodles, and ramen isn’t an easy thing to find outside of downtown, so I’m excited to see the new location just west of Main on 5th.

Not sure when the opening date is but it looked like they were going hard, sounds like there are some other Ramen places soon to open downtown too!  It’s quite a debate as to which everyone prefers, which do you think is the best?

JUICY CHICKEN LIVES!

February 18, 2010

In the form of a T-Shirt, thanks to Rhek from SHARKS AND HAMMERS.  Juicy Chicken was a special place in East Vancouver, and although heartbreaking, the demise of Juicy Chicken was filed under ‘bummer’ here at VIA as the chicken waddled off into the sunset, it was something we couldn’t cover.  We even had to say no to the Juicy Chicken heritage society which wasn’t easy.

The shirts come in black pictured below and white too, get ‘em fast because before you know it…like the chicken…it’ll be all gone.

2010 OLYMPIC COVERAGE: CURLING!

February 18, 2010

Had the pleasure of checking out a curling match today.  It was much more exciting that I had thought, there’s four games going on at once and well….check out these pants worn by the Norwegian team!

Oh..the Canadians lit up the Swedes bad….7 to 3…there have been sightings of them later in the day in Ikea’s cafeteria, weeping.

Anyone know if ‘Sweep the leg!’ is appropriate at a curling match?

CHERRY BLOSSOMS ALREADY!

February 18, 2010

VIA hasn’t been around all that long, but it’s great to go back and see what the heck we were stoked on last year, and in this case, when we were stoked on it.

The cherry blossoms for example, here’s Sean Miller’s post from last year which he made at the end of April, spring had finally sprung after the winter of all winters…..

Clearly not the case this year, who thought we’d be able to show them to the world at the Winter Olympics?  Looks like the people over Nitobe Gardens knew something we didn’t know as they started charging admission on the 12th!

BPL AIN’T NUTHIN’ TO F WIT!

February 16, 2010

Another reason why Vancouver is so awesome is that it’s neighbouring suburbs are awesome as well.  Living in Hastings Sunrise, it’s pretty easy for me to use alot of Burnaby’s facilities, from community centers to libraries.

As mentioned in my Sunday post, me and Sue have been together forever, so we watch alot of movies.  It’s also morphed from going to movies, to renting movies, now we get them out of the library.  Both Vancouver and Burnaby have a great selection of movies, the websites are really easy to use too, you request ‘em and they send you an email when they’re ready.

Sometimes I get so excited when I find another gem that I can barely contain myself….  and sometimes I run around the library with fingers out and thumbs locked screaming, “WU-TANG!  WU-TANG!”

Can’t say it was the most romantic movie ever…..
