The Inukshuk at English Bay. Now, I’ve taken more than my fair share of photos of this iconic piece of Vancouver/Canadian history over the years, but none as cool as this one. It’s a difficult piece to photograph you know. You need the right lens selection to be able to capture it in all it’s glory and context within it’s surroundings without just ending up with a photo of a bunch of rocks piled up on one another. Wynonna has captured a beautiful, awesome photo of the Inukshuk, wouldn’t you agree? Oh, and did you all know that this Inukshuk is a left over remnant of the North West Territories Pavilion from Expo 86? Check it out here. :)

Carrying on with the weather (rain) related photo subjects that make up a large percentage of Daily Flickr Pickr pool submissions this time of year, I chose an absolutely awesome photo taken out in Richmond towards Westham Island, which in itself is an awesome place to head out to shoot photos in the George C. Reifel Bird Sanctuary.

It’s nice to see action shots like this in the Daily Flickr Pickr pool. Not that I mind seeing beautiful photos from around the city, but I do loves me some wicked action shots from up the mountain!

One thing that people (choose to) forget Vancouver is awesome for is rain. Rain is one of the things that makes this city as awesome (on a natural level) as it is. It’s the reason we have such lush and green surroundings and the reason everything in this city is so fresh and vibrant. I know, I know, after a few days/weeks/months of it, it can get a little depressing, but come Spring, we’re all very thankful we had all that rain in the Fall/Winter, aren’t we?
Which brings me to today’s Daily Flickr Pickr pool selection. Rainy Days by Kelvin Ng. It’s an awesome photo to remind us of how awesome the rain in this city is.

Love it when I peruse through the Daily Flickr Pickr submissions and find a photo that actually makes me say “Wow” out loud. Even when there’s no one else in the room. I found that photo today. An amazing photo taken during the Illuminate Yaletown event by Ann Hung. The wide angle and colors! Ooooo..the colors. Just awesome.

This city is pretty darn awesome, ain’t it? I’m a born and raised Vancouverite, and I can truly say, I never, EVER get tired of this city. I’ve seen it grow into the truly multicultural, diverse, inclusive, naturally beautiful, well planned out metropolis that it is today. I mean hell, I’m old enough to remember when the Scotia Tower was the tallest building in the city. ;)
This city never ceases to amazing me, impress me, surprise me, and most of all, welcome me.
I love looking through the wonderful and awesome photos that you all take of this city (and it’s surrounding areas) and submit to the Daily Flickr Pickr pool. I especially liked seeing this one submitted by HereInVancouver today. It’s a fantastic night time photo of the ducks in in the water down by Sunset Beach, if my bearings are correct. Wonderfully captured, and proof that you can take a photo any time of the day (or night), any time of year here in Vancouver and capture an awesome photo.
