Today’s dog featured in Dogtown Vancouver is Honey, Lindsay G’s pup. Here’s what she had to say about her…

NAME: Honey. BREED: Boston Terrier. HOOD: Ladner. FAVOURITE SNACK: Her brother Bubba’s eye snot (gross, I know). OTHER INFO: Two-year old Honey isn’t quite as her name would suggest – she’s more of a hot sauce… a little sweetness with a lot of kick! She loves to play and taunts her brother every time she catches the ball and he doesn’t (which is almost always). She also learned to sing at a very young age and continues to do so every time the phone rings. She may be feisty, but her crooked pouty lip will melt your heart every time. Today’s dog featured in Dogtown Vancouver is Vito, Kathleen M’s pup. Here’s what she had to say about him…

NAME: Vito. BREED: Lagotto Romagnolo. HOOD: Kits. FAVOURITE SNACK: He’ll do anything for a dried chicken liver or lamb lung snack. But most of all, he loves socks and shoes. OTHER INFO: This is Vito, the Lagotto Romagnolo, otherwise known as Italian Water Dog. It is an ancient breed, but it almost died out until a doctor decided to breed it back into health. Around the mid-1990s they made a comeback. They are now bred as truffle-hunters. They are high energy, super-smart, and hypo-allergenic. Vito is 2 years old and lives in Kits after spending his first six months in Portland, Oregon, and then Mt. Pleasant. The only thing he likes more than chasing a ball is jumping into the sea. He swims like an otter, tirelessly and vigorously. He loves to lie on the socks and shoes of family members who leave the house. NAME: Lexie. BREED: Mix. HOOD: Kits/Yaletown. FAVOURITE SNACK: Peanut butter. OTHER INFO: Lexie may be small but she is one tough cookie. She loves to commute to work with me on my bike, run in giant donuts through the grass and scale rocks 3 times her size at the Chief – a total Vancouver pup! Vote for Lexie in the Fido Casting Call. NAME: Angelina. BREED: Shetland Sheepdog. HOOD: Kitsilano. FAVOURITE SNACK: Anything that falls on the floor while I’m cooking. OTHER INFO: Angelina is a 13 year old Sheltie who lives in Kits but walks to her owner’s Yaletown office daily. She’s the original office dog at Trialto Wine Group but now shares the limelight with Pete and Diego. Although she doesn’t have a palate for wine she likes to hang out in the staff kitchen in hopes that a crumb or two may fall to the floor. She tends to fall asleep a lot during meetings but if there’s ever applause for a guest winemaker she will join in by running around the boardroom barking her approval. Today’s dog featured in Dogtown Vancouver is Hamish, Barrie M‘s pup. Here’s what he had to say about him…

NAME: Hamish. BREED: Old English Sheepdog. HOOD: Point Grey. FAVOURITE SNACK: Bananas, strawberries from the garden and carrots. OTHER INFO: Hamish is the official greeter at the BC Golf House. We found a breeder in Calgary who interviewed us twice before we could go and pick him out of a litter of five. He loves chasing sticks down at the beach, but won’t go in where he can’t touch the bottom. He loves car rides (he goes everywhere we go) and riding up front in the motor home. If we leave him in the car while we go in somewhere, he sits in the drivers seat so he can see everything. If you’re interested in adopting a pet, check out our Happy Tails feature. What does a sunshine filled vacation day, a BBQ lunch and the opportunity to tee it up with a Vancouver Open golf professional equal? A dream come true for this VIA contributor! This past Thursday, to promote the upcoming 2012 Paine Edmonds Vancouver Open and Charity Pro-Am, members of the media were invited to attend “Vancouver Parks Golf Media Day” at Fraserview Golf Course.

Hosted by the city’s three municipal courses (Fraserview, Langara and McLeerey), the Vancouver Open boasts a cash and prize purse of $75,000! The four BC pros who attended the media event were Vancouver Golf Tours #2 ranked player (and West End-er!) Ryan Williams, Chilliwack native and 2011 runner-up Brad Clapp, Mission resident Kevin Stinson and Langley south-paw Adam Cornelson. The day began with some inspiring words from Vancouver Park’s Supervisor of Golf Course Operations Howard Norman, Vancouver Golf Tour Commissioner Fraser Mulholland, and others. Next was a great lunch of tasty burgers and a cool clinic for the attending youth of the Greater Vancouver YMCA’s “The First Tee” program. After that it was tee time!
