PARALYMPIC RESULTS – 19 MEDALS FOR CANADA!!

March 21, 2010

I just want to throw a HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to ALL CANADIAN PARALYMPIANS for the great success we’ve had this past week. Canada tied for 3rd most medals overall! 10 GOLD, 5 SILVER, and 4 BRONZE. North Vancouver’s Lauren Woolstencroft competed brilliantly by winning gold in all 5 events that she entered!! Other standouts include Viviane Forest, who took home 5 medals for Canada, and Brian McKeever who pocketed 3 gold medals! The Vancouver 2010 Paralympic Winter Games are the most successful results for Canada out of any Paralympic Winter Games.

The Closing Ceremonies will be shown live on CTV Sunday night, at 7pm, PST.

Hood Wars #2 – Shaughnessy

August 31, 2008

Max’s Deli

I think this place is heaven sent for bachelors and those that like to eat like one.

While it is up on the price scale, the sandwiches (which I didn’t eat today, therefor don’t have a photo of) are about the size of your head. They’re massive. If you’re not a sandwich person there are so many ready to go meals at this place it’s almost absurd. Also, the desert cabinet is something out of the Willy Wonka factory and will give you a cavity just looking at it so beware.

There are a couple of these bad boys around the city: 8th/Cambie & Oak/16th

Hood Wars #1 – Shaughnessy (and then some)

August 27, 2008

Granville Park Lawn Bowling Club.

I’m basically counting down the days until I can devote my days to lawn bowling. In fact, I went by my local lawn bowling club and the seniors were more than happy to sign me up on the spot to show up weekly and roll with them. (pun intended)

While I talked to one of the older gals she made a note to point out the guy in the brown slacks with the walking cane.

“See that man over there?”

“Yeah”

“Well, he lost his leg in the war. Great bowler.”

I didn’t know what I should be more proud of. The fact that he sacrificed for our country, or that he was a fantastic bowler. I’m stoked on both, and I can’t wait to beat him.

Pitch and Putt season – Stanley Park

June 13, 2008

Tis the season to hit the links. Pitch and putt is as good a reason as any to ditch work early, especially after another stint of poor weather. Here is the first of many P&P checkouts in the Vancouver area. This is the city’s best (and therefore busiest) course, Stanley Park Pitch and Putt. Standard rates here, an 18-hole round runs you $12 plus a buck for each club rental (which you can rent no later than 3 hours before closing). The twilight fee is $9 but it only gives you an hour of light and you must own clubs. That’ll get you halfway around the course, making it a bad deal for you. The scenery is the best of all the P&P’s in the city and you’re likely to see more wildlife than you can shake a stick at. DON’T however shake a stick at the wildlife. We’re talking about raccoons here. I’m shocked that I haven’t heard of vicious attacks going down on the course or an hour of TV devoted to ‘When Stanley Park Animals Attack!’. This is a park where clueless parents let their children try to hand feed Canada Geese. Those guys will break your arm, I kid you not. One thing to note of this course, is how busy it gets. Go early and try to avoid weekends if possible. Also, be prepared to skip a few holes to bypass slooowww tourists. During my last two visits there have been dudes rolling through with their luggage. Have their planes just landed? Are they just about to fly out? Nobody knows for sure. One thing is for certain, this is as good as it gets in cheap urban golf. stanley-tee.jpgstanley-course.jpg This guy will rip your heart out… no really, he will.. stanley-raccoon.jpgstanleyparkmap.jpg

Charleson Park

March 10, 2008

Charleson Park is one of my favourite parks in the city. It’s got everything you need to get away from the city while staying in the city. The trick is that you have to look a bit closer at your surroundings.

Charleson sign Choose your path when you enter from the South.Left takes the brick path. Right takes the forrest path.

Charleson path Going right, you’re likely to see a duck pond and in a discreet location, a waterfall.

Charleson enviro The middle of the park is where your dog can rip it up.

Charleson dog park Once you make it to the waterfront, the bench is all yours.

South False Creek Seawall Now Open

February 24, 2008

The South False Creek seawall bike path (the one that runs from Main St. to Cambie) that had been re-routed through 2nd Ave for the past 2 years is now open to the public. While construction still continues around the path, there is much to see as the Olympic Village begins to take shape. Docks and man-made islands abound!      Seawall Now OpenOlympic Village Island
