On the eve of this premiere wedding show, I randomly crashed an exclusive reception preview with celebrity designer Preston Bailey (Oprah).

Between cocktails & canapés, we previewed some of the elegance and grace from the show with some beautiful samples.

Volume 41: Official Canucks Tweetup #1 – Vancouver Canucks 5, Calgary Flames 1 at Boston Pizza, West Broadway on November 1, 2011. More photos available on Flickr.

I finally made it to an official Canucks Tweetup (the first of the 2011-12 season) after failing to all last year. The event was hosted by the hockey club, social media coordinator Nicole van Zanten and The Beat’s Chris Palliser.

The place was fairly packed for a slightly earlier start out of Calgary. It was slow going in the first, but the Canucks turned it on for a 5-1 rout, electrifying the rowdy crowd. We blamed (Dennis) Pang for ruining Lu’s shutout.

Volume 40: Painted Rock Estate Winery‘s 2nd annual tasting party at Gotham Steakhouse & Cocktail Bar on October 20, 2011. More photos available on Flickr.

On a random weekday afternoon, I popped into Gotham Steakhouse for Painted Rock’s annual private wine tasting and celebration.

Everyone sipped on the fine wine from Pentiction. I stuck mostly with the fairly tasty chardonnay and merlot. Forgive me, I know next to nothing about wine or wine culture. I just know when I like it and it tastes good.

I made the unusual stop in the Terminal/Station/Industrial area packed with mostly warehouses for a flower and garden party.

I met owners Caley Hui and Amy Hu at the MacLure’s Cabs 100th anniversary party and they mentioned their opening party to celebrate their brand new location.

Volume 38: Shark Truth‘s Sans Fin Soup Contest at Renaissance Vancouver Harbourside Hotel on October 13, 2011. Hashtag: #SansFinSoup. More photos available on Flickr.

Last night was Shark Truth’s big Sans Fin Soup Contest in support of finding alternatives to shark fin soup and stopping fish mutulation.

Founder Claudia Li (pictured below with Angela Jung) with her team and the support of the Vancouver Foundation as one of their projects, spearheaded this cause and the group’s efforts.

My travels as a social editor sometimes takes me to interesting places. Case in point, I attended MacLure’s anniversary party celebrating 100 years in business. I had no idea they’d been around so long.

CBC’s basement studios were packed with mostly members of the Indo-Canadian community, NPA politicians looking for votes, representatives from the other local taxicab companies, and random friends. It was pretty decked out.
