NAME: Mickey. BREED: Husky, Shepherd, Collie cross. HOOD: Burnaby. FAVOURITE SNACK: Anything with food in it. OTHER INFO: Mickey is a gentle soul. He has a weakness for scratches on his belly and absolutely loves to play with other dogs. He’s too smart for fetch or swimming, but digs the snow and long hikes in the woods. Mickey considers himself a human and enjoys wiggling his way in between Mom and Dad in bed, and sending longing looks at the dinner table during supper. He’s loving, cuddly and kindhearted – the best pal anyone could ask for.

Today’s dog featured in Dogtown Vancouver is Bastian, Keith K’s pup. Here’s what he had to say about him…

NAME: Bastian (often shortened to Basty). BREED: Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. HOOD: S. Surrey. FAVOURITE SNACK: Salmon Bites. OTHER INFO: Born June 23, 2003 in Duncan, BC (Kewpy’s CKCS), Basty is a 9 year old King Charles. His quiet demeanor is complimented by a charming personality. As is typical of King Charles Spaniels, he extends a paw of friendship to fellow canines and humans alike. Basty loves a good walk, during which he exhaustively checks and answers his p-mail. Two months after his 7th birthday, Basty faced significant health challenges, not the least of which was a diagnosis of Spinal Lymphoma. For the next 9 months, he endured Chemotherapy treatments that involved he and his human companion making countless early morning/late evening treks from their home in S. Surrey to Canada West Vet Hospital in Vancouver. The folks at Canada West treated him with the dignity and care he deserved, and although he wasn’t excited about the treatments, the level of love and care he was shown at Canada West made it endurable (especially his neurologist, Dr Michael Higgins and the nursing staff). Today, Basty is in remission. He continues to deal with follow-on issues, but seldom complains and continues to love life. Over the years, he has appeared on Breakfast Television and Dogs In Canada magazine. Details of his health challenges are entered in his blog.

Today’s dog featured in Dogtown Vancouver is Link, Sandy P’s pup. Here’s what she had to say about him…

NAME: Link, named after Nintendo’s classic The Legend of Zelda. BREED: Siberian Husky. HOOD: Downtown. FAVOURITE SNACK: Peanut butter, remotes, and sunglasses. OTHER INFO: Link should probably have his own Twitter account because he’s super active on social media. This dog is enough to spend many of his Vancouver days in the popular social media office, HootSuite, where he indulges in endless belly rubs and toilet water. He impresses HootSuite’s owls responding to key commands in style, including “up”, “down”, “sit”, “stay”, “high-five”, “stand”, “jump”, “hug”, and even “bang!” where he dies – right in front of you. ;) HootSuite’s owls have gone as far as dubbing his new HootSuite nickname, LinkedIn – cause this dog knows how to network like no other.

Today’s dog featured in Dogtown Vancouver is Lily, Corrin W’s pup. Here’s what she had to say about her…

NAME: Lily (nickname: lily pants). BREED: Japanese Chin. HOOD: Main Street/SOMA. FAVOURITE SNACK: greenies. OTHER INFO: The daughter of a professional gambler, she was of Japanese ancestry. She was only nine months old when her father died; her mother remarried, and she occasionally went by Chiisai Kage, using the last name of her stepfather. At age one, she stole a revolver, for which he was sent to the Youth Authority’s Preston School of Industry reformatory at Victoria BC. She escaped while in the adjustment center (jail within the jail). After robbing several jewelry stores, she stole a car and drove it across the border. This made it a federal offense, and when she was recaptured, she was sentenced to three years in the penitentiary at Astoria, Oregon. She feels that it was a combination of liquor and jazz that led to the downfall. After finishing her sentence, moved to Vancouver where she lives a quiet and reformed life style. Likes: belly rubs, sqeaky toys, kids, elderly folks, cute boys Dislikes: water, rain, vets & groomers.
