Van City Kitty: Ziggy Stardust

February 3, 2012

A new kitty once a week! Click here to find out how your cat can appear on Van City Kitty.

Here are the deets on Ziggy, submitted by VIA reader Leah K:

Name: Ziggy Stardust
Breed/Colouring: Flame Point Siamese
Hood: Cedar Cottage – East Van
Habits:Adopted at 9 months after spending a good portion of his kittenhood in a Northern BC shelter, Ziggy now resides in a cozy apartment in East Vancouver. He’s very social and loves meeting new people and other animals. With his constant need to be the center of attention, Ziggy can often be found wandering around announcing his actions in loud Siamese yowls and trilling sounds. He is also known to enjoy the odd car ride and chewing on sparkly sequin garments.

Van City Kitty: Meet Oreo!

January 13, 2012

A new kitty once a week! Click here to find out how your cat can appear on Van City Kitty.

Here are the deets on Oreo, who lives with VIA reader Lauren Tetrault:

Name: Oreo
Breed/Colouring: Black and white
Hood: Mt. Pleasant
Habits: I’m a big fan of licking the bathtub just after someone showers. I also love meowing around 5 a.m. right into the ear of everyone sleeping. Once they are up I go back to sleep. I want whatever you are eating and will stare at you until I get it.
Hangouts: Anywhere my owner is sitting. If she is editing on the computer I take up most of the chair and she sits on the edge to make me happy. I also have three beds around a small one bedroom apartment.
Other info:I’m an 18-year-old diabetic cat so I’m pretty much the boss. I need two needles a day so I travel with my owners whenever possible. I was born in Whistler and love to go back there for Halloween.

Van City Kitty: It’s Eddy

December 30, 2011

A new kitty once a week! Click here to find out how your cat can appear on Van City Kitty.

Submitted by VIA reader Courtney Komonasky, it’s Eddy. An original East Van toughie:

Name: Eddy
Breed/Colouring: DSH/ black (duh)
Hood: Mount Pleasant
Habits: Resident tough guy. He’s super social and goes and hangs with the neighbours when I’m at work to mooch love and food. Loves to sit on any sunny front porch or directly in front of the heater.

He recently broke a tooth and fractured his jaw doing who knows what, protecting his turf most likely.

Van City Kitty: Meet Sparrow

December 9, 2011

A new kitty once a week! Click here to find out how your cat can appear on Van City Kitty.

VIA reader Eryne Donahue submitted her awesome traveling celebrity enviro cat Sparrow!

Name: Sparrow “Cedarpaws”
Breed/Colouring: A petite grey-brown tabby
Hood: East Van (Fraser-Broadway area)
Habits: Opening and slamming kitchen cupboards to get attention and treats, late night visits to the local elementary school, drinking from the toilet and begging for milk when its coffee time.
Hangouts: You can find her skulking in the 11th ave curbside gutter, running around at the local elementary school, looking down at you from the roof, snoozing in her cardboard “occupy” tent or on the road anywhere along the coast (she’s a traveller!).
Other info: Born on the streets of East Van and adopted from the SPCA as a kitten, Sparrow has been brought up by an artist and an environmentalist in an old heritage home rental suite. A bit of an adrenaline junkie, she enjoys bumpy car rides on forest service roads, canoe trips on False Creek (and gunnel walking), dog slapping and miniature dog chasing (seriously!), climbing very high trees, sliding down playground slides (on her own!), trail “running with the pack” (i.e. her owners), running into Coyote dens in Squamish or on the Oregon coast (seriously!), roof walking, staring down speeding cars from the middle of the alley and taking on the big cats. She is only one year old and yet she has already travelled to Squamish, Pemberton, Lillooet, Kamloops, Logan Lake, Hope and all the way down the coast on a roadtrip to San Francisco- tent camping along the way. She’s been invited into pet stores, corner stores and a Sonoma county winery! Not only that, but she’s also participated in the creation of 4 wetlands as a conservation project in the BC interior, behaved herself well in a Pemberton breeding bird count, has been featured as “vole patrol” on the Tk’emlups Indian Band facebook page! Wow…she’s a bit of a celebrity enviro cat.

If you’re interested in adopting a pet, check out our Happy Tails feature or our monthly Van City Kitty Take Us Home editions (most recently here or here.) If you adopted your pet from the SPCA and would like to share your awesome story on Happy Tails, send an email to Rory.Blanchard@novusnow.ca.

Van City Kitty: Stu

November 25, 2011

A new kitty once a week! Click here to find out how your cat can appear on Van City Kitty.

Here are the deets on Stu, submitted by VIA reader Sami Christianson:

Name: Stu
Breed/Colouring: A cross-eyed ragdoll cat
Hood: Mt. Pleasant
Habits: Sitting like a human, stealing sushi, trying to fit into purses and bags, running into windows, going for jogs down the hallways of my apartment, sitting on my alarm clock as soon as it goes off so I don’t hear it, licking my face until I wake up to feed him, and attacking my toes in the middle of the night.
Hangouts: The fridge, the bathtub, purses, casserole dishes, countertops, right in front of the tv, the bed, my shoulders while I’m getting ready for bed, and his kitty condo.
Other info: I rescued Stu at 5 months old from a family that was going to pass him off to the SPCA. How they could not want this little guy I will never understand.

Some of Stu’s cute little quirks are: He likes to carry his toys around the apartment in his mouth, he greets me at the door every day at 6 o’clock when I get home from work, and he loves to be picked up and cuddled… as soon as you pick him up he flops in your arms like a doll (hence the name ragdoll cat).

If you’re interested in adopting a pet, check out our Happy Tails feature. If you adopted your pet from the SPCA and would like to share your awesome story on Happy Tails, send an email to Rory.Blanchard@novusnow.ca.
