Van City Kitty: Meet Freckle!

April 10, 2013

A new kitty once a week! Click here to find out how your cat can appear on Van City Kitty.

This week, Freckle submitted himself!

(I think he had a little help from VIA reader, Ashley B. though..)

Name:Freckle, but my frends also call me Freckly, Frecks, Tinks, Tinky Winky, and Plopper Plopperton.

.…..

Breed/Colouring: I’m part tiger (that’s what my Mom tells me!)

…

Hood: South Granville

Habits: I’m a big-boned boy, so I love to eat. I also cat-call at all the birds as they fly by.

Hangouts: My cat palace, my mom’s favorite pillow, and right at the doorway (I once was a bouncer back in my days at the Kitty Shack, so I know what happens when you accidentally let shady characters in! I keep my family safe.)

.

Favorite Things: I like simplicity, so a string will keep me happy. So will cuddles and belly rubs…

Other Info: I was roaming the streets of Vancouver before I was picked up by VOKRA and eventually settled in with my human Mom; Ashley.

Here is one of my favorite spots!

Van City Kitty: Meet Professor Buttercreme Squigglesworth!

April 3, 2013

A new kitty once a week! Click here to find out how your cat can appear on Van City Kitty.

Here are the deets on Professor Buttercreme Squigglesworth, submitted by VIA readers : Ruwan and Sara!

Name:Professor Buttercreme Squigglesworth aka:”Stripes” or “Flopsy-Buckets”

…

Breed/Colouring:  Brown, Black and White Tiger Stripey…

Hood: Hastings Sunrise

Habits: Snuggling, wrapping his paws around his toys and snuggling them, hanging out in the sink when he gets nervous, climbing on his dad, purring, meowing and generally being a chatty little guy.

Hangouts:  The balcony, the windowsill, curled up to sleep between mum and dad, and parked in front of his food dish.

Favorite Things: Eating, snacking, getting treats, watching birds, wearing ties (though he’ll never admit it), playing with his toy mice, Christmas (especially the ornaments, so fun!) snuggles, pets and getting carried around by his dad.
…

Other Info: Sara and Ruwan met The Professor at the BCSPCA in November 2012 where he had been brought in as a stray. They played together awhile and when Sara stuck her finger in his cage to say goodbye, he grabbed onto it with both front paws and held on tight. She was instantly smitten and knew we had to have him. He wasn’t very healthy but they were able to foster him for a few weeks and on Christmas Eve, with a clean bill of health, he officially became their boy! He’s a real handsome and lovely gentleman, and is thrilled to be this week’s Van City Kitty!

The Professor is ready to give a well-attended talk on the worth of Squiggles.

You don’t get called Professor Buttercreme for not keeping your fur the very softest. Here is the professor demonstrating proper hygiene.

Van City Kitty: Take Us Home Edition! Meet Pepe and Sheba

March 27, 2013

A new kitty once a week! Click here to find out how your cat can appear on Van City Kitty.

Every month we feature a few kitties who are looking for their forever home. Today we have two adoptable felines from VOKRA!

Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Association (VOKRA) is a no-kill, non-profit, registered charity dedicated to the rescue of cats in the Lower Mainland that is run entirely by volunteers with no paid staff.

VOKRA does not have a shelter; they provide over 100 individual foster homes which helps to protect the very young from colds, distemper, parasites and other transmissible illnesses. In a home environment, cats are safe and well socialized, with lots of love and attention. VOKRA covers all of the costs and provides ongoing support to foster families.

VOKRA also has an extensive TNR program, which means they trap, spay/neuter, and work with community cats to control the homeless cat population.

Learn more about VOKRA here.

You can subscribe to their “Mewsletter” here.

SHEBA and PEPE

Sheba and Pepe are 4-year-old friends who would make calm, quiet companions to a very lucky home. While they are both timid at first, once they gain your trust (like they have with their foster family) they are sweet and affectionate. Sheba (black kitty) has a very cute voice and she will happily let you know when she is hungry or wants to come into the room with you. She likes to spend the whole night with the people she trusts, and feels best with a hand resting on her for comfort.
Once Pepe (grey kitty) feels comfortable, he will cuddle all night curled up in the crook of your arm or with you spooning him. In the morning if he isn’t next to you when you wake he’ll come running to get his morning cuddles. He has a deep, rumbly purr.

These buddies would be loving companions forever to a calm and patient person or couple.

Van City Kitty: Meet Neko!

March 20, 2013

A new kitty once a week! Click here to find out how your cat can appear on Van City Kitty.

Here are the deets on Neko, submitted by VIA reader : Jessica Kovach!

Name: Neko
…
Breed/Colouring: The noble “Long Haired Cow Cat”
…
Hood:East Vancouver...

Habits: Bullying his sisters, Scratching the litter box walls (for what seems like hours) flaunting his handsomeness and running all over his people every morning at dawn.

Hangouts: Anything remotely box-like, messenger bags, and purses (particularly right after they’ve been taken off.)

Favorite Things: Ping Pong Balls, chasing the laser pointer, attacking people through the shower curtain, going for walks to the laundry room in the laundry basket, climbing bicycles & most of all shredding his papa’s hands during battles on the drum stool.
…
Other Info: Neko mean “cat” in Japanese, and this Neko has the eye brows of Pai Mei!

Neko just wants to ride his bicycle.

Van City Kitty: Meet Kirby!

March 13, 2013

A new kitty once a week! Click here to find out how your cat can appear on Van City Kitty.

Here are the deets on Kirby, submitted by VIA reader : Jeremy Hood!

Name: Kirby
…
Breed/Colouring: Ginger
…
Hood: Grandview, near Commercial Drive
…

Habits: He likes to chew the soft plastic on grocery bag handles, and he loves to lay on warm clothes from the dryer for re-furring.  He will gladly be held like a baby but detests his nails being trimmed.

Hangouts: The couch is all Kirby, all the time. He likes to sit right in the middle in an effort to dissuade others from sitting on the couch with him. He’s also famous for his ‘spread-eagle’ way of laying on the back of said couch. Also, in his older years, he’s become quite the snuggler (he never used to be) and likes to lay on laps and chests. Sometimes he will burrow under the bed sheets and sleep under a mound of covers.

Favorite Things: He’s never really been a big into playing with toys, when he does, it is with those tiny toy mice that go missing within 10 minutes of hitting the floor. He also loves his sister very much, who was adopted as a kitten from VOKRA last summer.

Other Info: As mentioned, a new addition came into the house last July. Harriet the kitten (featured a few months ago) is Kirby’s new sister. While he gets a little antsy if she’s too smothering, they have become inseparable. Many times it seems Kirby is at his wit’s end when he constantly gets chased about the house by little Harriet, but it’s all in good fun. Kirby knows (or thinks, at least) he’s boss of the house. He has a rough exterior (he was one of those crazy ginger male kittens) but he’s a softie on the inside, especially in his older years.

“I don’t always appreciate toys, but when  I do, I lose them pretty much immediately.”

This is his “thoughtful big brother” look.

Van City Kitty: Meet P.K!

March 6, 2013

A new kitty once a week! Click here to find out how your cat can appear on Van City Kitty.

Here are the deets on P.K, submitted by VIA readers : Ashley Letts!

Name: P.K.
…
Breed/Colouring:  Maine Coon / Tabby
…
Hood: Mount Pleasant
…

Habits:  Being surly, crunching his teeth through plastic bags, and swatting glasses off of faces!

Hangouts:  The bathroom counter, the end of the bed, sitting on the toilet with the lid down, and the chillin’ in the laundry basket, re-furring all the clothes.

Favorite Things: Bath water, stolen snuggles, boxes and shopping bags.

Other Info: PK stands for Princess Killah – her people thought little baby PK was a girl.

The ferocious little Killah!

Life is tough for a little handsome princess:
