Van City Kitty: It’s Zoey

February 17, 2012

A new kitty once a week! Click here to find out how your cat can appear on Van City Kitty.

Here are the deets on Zoey, submitted by VIA reader Alison Scott:

Name: Zoey

This is Zoey, my tabby cat. Her ‘hood is the Drive. She hangs out on tabletops, in suitcases, and in a smelly old cat bed she’s had for five years (she’s not interested in your fancy and clean new replacements, thank you). She will not sit in your lap. She likes to sit at her water fountain (she’s spoiled) until you turn it on and then walk away- she’s not thirsty, she just wants to know you’ll do things for her. She’ll make you wave long blades of fake grass at her for hours, because she *might* want to play. She’s manipulative and totally adorable.

If you’re interested in adopting a pet, check out our Happy Tails feature or our monthly Van City Kitty Take Us Home editions (most recently here or here.)

If you adopted your pet from the SPCA and would like to share your awesome story on Happy Tails, send an email to Rory.Blanchard@novusnow.ca.

Van City Kitty: Meet Chaucer and Swift!

February 10, 2012

A new kitty once a week! Click here to find out how your cat can appear on Van City Kitty.

Van City Kitty friend Dr. B. (who incidentally is writing a book about Douglas Coupland‘s work; how cool is that?!) is an English professor. Ergo, her two cats are named Chaucer and Swift. I’ll let her tell you their tails:

Name: Chaucer
Info: This is Chaucer.  He is a grey tabby.  He lives in New West, though he was born in Ottawa and spent four years in Fredericton.  He rode in a car from Fredericton to New Westminster, and didn’t complain once until he hit the Port Mann Bridge which, hey.

He likes sleeping, washing all of his toys, and getting stoned — and then washing all of his toys and sleeping.  His favourite place to sleep is on pricier electronics.  He has regular morning jaunts on the balcony and loves to sleep on a well-packed box.

He has pretty much the biggest heart ever and takes life extremely, extremely seriously.

Name: Swift
Info: This is Swift!  Also a grey tabby.  He is equally as well-travelled as his older brother, Chaucer, and also now calls New West home.

His hobbies include sleeping in boxes, sleeping on bookshelves, and jumping on to super high things — to sleep.  He spends many hours willing his thumbs to grow so he no longer needs humans.  He likes spooning with his big brother and murdering feathered objects.

He’s a goofball and a trouble maker, but we’re pretty sure he loves us.

Van City Kitty: Ziggy Stardust

February 3, 2012

A new kitty once a week! Click here to find out how your cat can appear on Van City Kitty.

Here are the deets on Ziggy, submitted by VIA reader Leah K:

Name: Ziggy Stardust
Breed/Colouring: Flame Point Siamese
Hood: Cedar Cottage – East Van
Habits:Adopted at 9 months after spending a good portion of his kittenhood in a Northern BC shelter, Ziggy now resides in a cozy apartment in East Vancouver. He’s very social and loves meeting new people and other animals. With his constant need to be the center of attention, Ziggy can often be found wandering around announcing his actions in loud Siamese yowls and trilling sounds. He is also known to enjoy the odd car ride and chewing on sparkly sequin garments.

Van City Kitty: Meet Oreo!

January 13, 2012

A new kitty once a week! Click here to find out how your cat can appear on Van City Kitty.

Here are the deets on Oreo, who lives with VIA reader Lauren Tetrault:

Name: Oreo
Breed/Colouring: Black and white
Hood: Mt. Pleasant
Habits: I’m a big fan of licking the bathtub just after someone showers. I also love meowing around 5 a.m. right into the ear of everyone sleeping. Once they are up I go back to sleep. I want whatever you are eating and will stare at you until I get it.
Hangouts: Anywhere my owner is sitting. If she is editing on the computer I take up most of the chair and she sits on the edge to make me happy. I also have three beds around a small one bedroom apartment.
Other info:I’m an 18-year-old diabetic cat so I’m pretty much the boss. I need two needles a day so I travel with my owners whenever possible. I was born in Whistler and love to go back there for Halloween.

Submitted by VIA reader Courtney Komonasky, it’s Eddy. An original East Van toughie:
