Some calendar kitties are adopted, some are still awaiting their forever home.

Here are two friends from VOKRA who are still waiting for a new home and family:

VALENTINE

Valentine was one of three kittens rescued from the chassis of an old abandoned truck. Valentine is named for St. Valentine’s Day – the day she finally came out of hiding at her foster family’s home. Valentine is an amazingly beautiful and graceful little black panther. She started out shy but now she loves to play and is beginning to ask for pets and scratches. She is very curious and clever, and meows a hello every morning as she rubs against your legs. Although she is still skittish (and is not quite ready to be held), she is very affectionate and would be quite happy to have a window where she can watch birds all day. Valentine would do best in a quiet home and has adapted extremely well to sharing space with other cats.

Valentine would like to be adopted with Marlin.  She really depends on Marlin; they sleep, eat, and play together.

Adopt Valentine HERE

MARLIN

Marlin is still very shy and her foster family is working on getting her used to being petted, but for now she will greet your finger with a sniff, eat snacks from your fingers, and play as long as you have the energy. Marlin is growing more comfortable, but she still would do best with a family who knows how to be gentle and understanding of a shy cat.

Van City Kitty: Meet Frank the Cat!

November 28, 2012

A new kitty once a week! Click here to find out how your cat can appear on Van City Kitty.

Here are the deets on Frank, submitted by VIA reader : Lisa Parker!

Name: Frank
…
Breed/Colouring: Orange
…
Hood: Gastown
…

Habits: Frank is a nosy cat. He likes to spend a lot of time on the balcony trying to look into the neighbour’s places (and he prefers the litter box to be on the balcony; he likes to poop with a view.) He is a classic old man: Doesn’t like the morning, wants his food immediately, isn’t really keen on things changing, and loves paper (to sit on.)

Hangouts: The balcony, the litter box, sleeping ON his person’s pillow, sleeping with his legs sprawled out, his cardboard scratcher, and on top of the stylish cat tree, bought for an incredible amount of money (this act pleases the tree purchaser.)

Favorite Things:  Eating his sister’s tuna

Other Info: Frank joined the family from the Richmond Animal Shelter. The family didn’t initially know the extent of his health issues, but they now have his heart condition and hyperthyroid under control.
He is a real gem, has the patience of a king, and it is a million laughs to see Frank and Judy stalk the pigeons on the balcony for hours…

Frank’s sister, Judy was featured on VIA back in 2010!

Soft focus makes this appropriate:

Drunk on the sweet taste of stolen tuna:

Van City Kitty: Meet Smokey and Bandit!

November 21, 2012

A new kitty once a week! Click here to find out how your cat can appear on Van City Kitty.

Here are the deets on Smokey and Bandit as submitted by VIA reader : Jesse Marchand!

Names: Smokey and the Bandit
…
Breed/Colouring: Smokey is puffy and grey (in case you couldn’t tell which one he was) and Bandit is orange and tabby.
…
Hood: Main Street near King Edward
…

Habits: Smokey LOVES to cuddle. She just cannot get enough pets! Stop petting her and she will remind you with a friendly tap of her paw. Bandit loves to run in from outside meowing and telling his people all about his exciting day.

Hangouts: Smokey likes to chill on the antique chair in the living room, and any bed, especially if there’s a person in it! Bandit loves the yard, kitchen chairs, everywhere people are.

Favorite Things: Smokey adores being pet, little toy mousies, and most importantly, leaping.  Bandit, the little hunter/adventurer, likes catnip pouches, live birds, and talking.

Other Info: You can’t tell by looking, but Smokey and Bandit are siblings from the same litter! They moved all the way to Vancouver In May of 2012, from Kelowna when their long time owner sold his house and moved to a non-pet friendly space. After the long drive, they were both a little scared of the sounds and smells of such a big city, but today you can’t tell they ever lived anywhere else! They’ve definitely claimed East Van as their new home and they love to get visitors. They love to visit so much that they decided to take a nap in the middle of the dance floor at their person’s birthday party!

Buddies!

Soft cloud of fur:

Van City Kitty: Meet Lazuli &Pandora!

November 14, 2012

A new kitty once a week! Click here to find out how your cat can appear on Van City Kitty.

Here are the deets on Lazuli and Pandora as submitted by VIA reader : Andrea Polonijo!

Names: Lazuli and Pandora
…
Breed/Colouring: Lazuli is a head turner with long luxurious white and grey tabby fur. Pandora is always dressed to impress in her trim black and white tuxedo.
…
Hood: Main Street
…

Habits: Lazuli is a hipster-in-training, evidenced by the fact that she loves curling up on mom’s chambray shirt and listen to her Beach House album.  She’s a close-talker; she gets right up to your face to purr and lick you while digging her tiny paws into your neck! Pandora is adorably lanky and can often be found in the classic “spooky cat” position – back arched and tail up! She has amazing ball dribbling skills and hopes to play on the Canadian Women’s Soccer Team one day.

Hangouts: If mom’s cooking, they are right by her feet, licking their lips and hoping that she will drop some crumbs. If mom’s trying to work, they love to sit on her lap, laptop, or papers – whichever is most inconvenient! When it’s sunny they can be found sprawled out on the windowsill.  In any case, they are always together; they are inseparable.

Favorite Things: Hunting mom’s toes while she’s asleep, chirping like squirrels while chasing each other in circles around the apartment, and snuggling!

Other Info: At eight weeks old, these sisters were found after having been dumped (by a very bad person) on the streets of Smithers, BC. They were rescued by the good people at the North West Animal Shelter and flown to Vancouver where they were fostered by VOKRA.  When they were four months old they successfully wooed their adoptive mom’s heart with their charm and good looks, and are now living it up in Vancouver’s East Side!

Even cats know: Kitty bellies make the softest pillows.

Van City Kitty: Take Us Home Edition: Meet Ginger Greeting Card Models; Walter, Avery, and George!

November 7, 2012

A new kitty once a week! Click here to find out how your cat can appear on Van City Kitty.

Every month we feature a few kitties who are looking for their forever home. Today we have a special edition featuring adoptable kitties who have their very own greeting cards benefiting Katie’s Place and Home Finders!

Looking for some greeting cards for birthdays or holiday cards that are bright, sunny, and non-denominational? Would you like to fill your friends’ and families’ mailboxes with something other than bills and flyers? How about one-upping the cat photo internet exchange with photos of cats you can touch, write on, and put on people’s in-real-life desktops? (And if you want to go a step even further, you can adopt these exact cats and give them big 3-dimensional hugs all the time!)….Lisa Brideau, who is a giant help to Van City Kitty in coordinating photos and bios of rescue kitties for the Take Us Home Editions has designed 4 sweet kitty greeting cards featuring rescue cats who are currently up for adoption.  Every penny of the proceeds go to the shelter the kitty on the card is from; currently we have cats from Katie’s Place and HomeFinders, including Walter, below!

Cards can be purchased through the Maked Etsy page clickable on this text right here, or look for them at local craft fairs this season!

WALTER

Walter, currently residing at Katie’s Place, was struggling to get along with his family’s dogs and children, and he expressed his unhappiness by urinating inappropriately. His family wasn’t willing or able to cope with Walter’s behavior and surrendered him.  Since arriving at Katie’s Place, he has been consistently using the litter box, forming special relationships with some of our volunteers and has been spotted lounging in an extended embrace on numerous occasions. He can be a little grumpy at times, delivering an occasional and unexpected whap with his paw, but it may be that once in a home of his own with a calm, small family to love him, he will let go of this last vestige of uncertainty and give himself over completely to love and trust and happiness.

Adopt Walter HERE

AVERY

Avery from HomeFinders is an adorable little guy with unique colours; he looks like a creamsicle! He is a little nervous around people so needs some special attention in a home with lots of love and patience.

Adopt Avery HERE

GEORGE O’MALLY

George from HomeFinders is a big loveable kitten. He is playful and curious, but also loves to snuggle. He likes to curl in warm places like laps and the crook of your neck.  He would love to be adopted with one of his foster brothers as he is a very social cat, but he would also do fine on his own or with another cat he has yet to meet! George has also been around small children and has shown great patience with them.

Van City Kitty: Take Us Home this Halloween! Black Cat Edition.

October 31, 2012

A new kitty once a week! Click here to find out how your cat can appear on Van City Kitty.

Every month we feature a few kitties who are looking for their forever home. This month we have a special Halloween Edition of some very sweet black kitties from VOKRA and Katie’s Place!

Happy Halloween!

It’s hard to believe by looking at the four beautiful cats below, but black cats have a drastically lower adoption rate than other coloured cats. Sadly, in shelters across Canada and all over the world this often means a high rate of euthanization; black cats are only unlucky if you happen to be one.

Whether because of outdated superstitions, or just the reality that they are much more difficult to photograph well, black cats are especially in need of loving homes and people or families to bond with.

If you are looking for a new addition to your family or a furry  companion who loves you just the way you are, consider one of these kitties, or one of many more in Vancouver shelters.

Both Katie’s Place and VOKRA are strictly no-kill shelters that are entirely volunteer run.

JULIETTE

Juliette seeks Romeo, but will gladly settle for anyone willing to provide a loving home. Juliette is a loving, trusting cat who was left behind by her family a couple of years ago. A neighbour had been feeding her, letting her in, and she had been sleeping on the bed, but they could no longer care for her and took her to a shelter. Her original family had been traced but didn’t want her back.

Juliette loves people, and misses having a person to call her own.  She must wonder why her family abandoned her and she found herself in shelter after shelter. Often, there aren’t enough loving moments to go around in the shelter, and so she awaits someone to love her as their very own.

Adopt Juliette HERE

HAMMOND

Hammond is a black guy with a beautiful chocolate ruff and highlights. He was trapped as a shy and scared stray so he’s a little scruffy right now, but he is friendly, attentive, and welcomes attention and petting. He may just steal your heart this Halloween after a few treats.

Adopt Hammond HERE

KARMA

Karma is a 5-month-old kitten who is all sweetness and spirit. She enjoys chasing everything from a rubber ball to a lazer pen to one of her siblings. She likes children and is fearless around other pets so would do very well in a family situation. Karma and one of her siblings would be a happy, delightful addition to a busy, loving family.

Adopt Karma HERE

CUBBY (and Bizzy!)

Cubby is unbelievably friendly. Her favorite spot is sitting on top of the filing cabinet where she can look out the window and watch the birds outside. She’s great with strangers and doesn’t hesitate to give them a snuggle and a head butt to say hello to them. Big kitty Cubby would like to be adopted with her big kitty sister Bizzy. Together they form a superhero team of double big kitty snuggles! Both Cubby and Bizzy are great with dogs as well.
