WEEK 172: The Shilohs

May 20, 2013
sceneandheard SCENE AND HEARD showcases the independent music scene here in Vancouver. With over 28,000+ artists, boasting more than 140,000+ tracks, the CBC Music/CBC Radio 3 web site is the absolute ultimate authority, and the home, of independent music in Canada. With that massive library along with tools for members (free to join!), we’re taking advantage of what they’ve set up by bringing you a fresh batch of music every week featuring local groups who have tracks (entire albums, even!) on the R3 site.

Record Club is back at the Biltmore TONIGHT and this week they have Vancouver band The Shilohs performing (with guest DJs Evan McDowell and Daniel Presnell (Von Bingen)). In the meantime we asked the boys to put together a list of some of their fav Vancouver tunes. I LOVE when I get playlists back and hear songs by bands I’ve never heard of…and there are some gems in this one. Click the images below to hear the list and we’ll see you tonight at the Biltmore!:

We’re turning 3! Or at least the “Last Week In Music” column is…so I thought, what’s a great way to celebrate? Maybe go through all 154 columns to date and make a playlist of every Vancouver(-ish) band that I’ve photographed over the last 3 years.

Turns out it’s a lot…over 195 YVR bands, and at least 50 bands from outside the city; not to mention all the festivals I’ve shot too. It ends up being a mind-boggling amount.

So take a listen below…click on a band you’ve never heard of before, see a band you haven’t seen live and:
>>>>>>>COME TO OUR PARTY ON WEDNESDAY!!!<<<<<<<

There will be cake, a photo booth, surprise guests, and Young Pacific, The Washboard Union, and JP Maurice!

I’ve known Dominique Fricot for a long time now (seriously, check THIS out – from over 4 years ago) …and for some reason it’s taken me until now to get him to make us a playlist! Well, it’s finally arrived and it’s chock-full of Vancouver indie music deliciousness.

Click the photos below to hear Dom’s picks and then come out to his show at the Electric Owl on Thursday the 25th!!!

I absolutely love Vancouver indie music, but one of my favourite Canadian artists is Rich Aucoin. From his music to his live show he is NOT to be missed when he comes through Vancouver. And this time he’s back at the Commodore, opening up for K’Os on the 20th! You’re going to want to get your ticket for this one…

We asked Rich for a playlist of some of his favourite songs by Vancouver artists, and built it for you — to listen click the photos below! See you Saturday!

There’s a HUGE show coming up this week that I’ve been looking forward to for a long time now. You can see Two Hours Traffic AND Zeus AND Rah Rah at the Biltmore on Saturday April 13th! That’s such a crazy lineup, so we asked Two Hours Traffic to put together a list of their favourite songs by Vancouver artists (thanks guys!)…check out the list by clicking below and do NOT miss that show (I’d get tickets now, it will most likely sell out):
