Browsing “High Fiving Celebrities”

Continuing our ongoing series of High Fiving Celebrities, I stood in line at the CBC to slap palms with a millionaire.

Earlier Jim donated $5000 to the Food Bank Day at the CBC Open House. In my head it was kinda like Oprah… and I pictured him saying “YOU get a Boston Pizza! And YOU get a Boston Pizza! And YOU get a Boston Pizza!”, but alas, he did not.

(Note, this is not the first Dragon I’ve met...)

Peter Puck followed me around the the beginning of the day. This was our 3rd high five, so I figured I’d document it:

A certain balaclava’d broadcaster blessed V.I.A. with a high-five yesterday at the Whistler Film Festival.

Dressed for snow (wethinks that scarf is either Armani or Prada, right?!), the Garbo-esque fellow played host for the festival’s annual Filmmaker Tribute. Canadian auteur Bruce McDonald (at the festival with a whopping three films, including the much anticipated world premier of Hard Core Logo 2) and legendary cult director Monte Hellman (Road to Nowhere, ) were being fêted as part of an evening of conversation, clips, and a fascinating panel discussion that included Atom Egoyan.

It’s the latest in our ongoing High Fiving Celebrities series where we track down local and visiting famous folks and ask them to offer you a virtual high five! This one is of V star, Elizabeth Mitchell, and it was taken by our good friends (and neighbours) at Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Garden in Chinatown.

I was honored to be able to attend tonight’s VIFF screening of Sturla Gunnarsson‘s Force of Nature: The David Suzuki Movie presented by Vancouver Is Awesome along with fellow VIA editors Rachel Fox and Jef Choy. It was an incredible film chronicling Dr. Suzuki’s journey through life and science. I highly recommend it. Of course the night would not have been complete without Rachel scoring this special Celebrity High Five from the legend himself, Dr. Suzuki.

That’s me high-fiving Margaret Cho backstage at the Queen Elizabeth on Saturday. Aside from looking totally stunned, Margaret is holding a bag filled with gelato from La Casa Gelato. In our interview I asked her if she would try kim chee gelato and she said that she would but apparently there are not enough fans of that, uh, “flavour” so La Casa pulled it. I got her chocolate chili instead.
