Shaw Video On Demand… FREE SPORTS!

March 8, 2010

If you have Shaw Cable you might have seen THIS profile piece on Vancouver Is Awesome that they were so nice to put together right before the Games, but did you know that if you have Shaw you can ALSO watch a TON of the archived 2010 Olympics events on Pay Per View… for FREE? I watched Sidney’s game winning goal about thirty times over on Saturday (you can pause and rewind), and I hear the Games will be up for the better part of March, so get watching!

FTW!

February 28, 2010

Okay, hold on a minute here… am I the only one who didn’t know that “FTW” in olympic/sports jargon doesn’t mean “F**k The world!” but actually is a celebratory “For The Win!”?

FTW, CANADA!

STUPID BOB QUESTION: OLYMPIC EDITION 2

February 24, 2010

When did the bobsled become bobsleigh and why?  Bob’s usually the one asking the dumb questions but in this case…. I’m hoping that he’s the expert in all things ‘Bob’…..Bob?

This is what happens when you have no accompanying photo…..

LEESIDE!

February 23, 2010

Since the inception of VIA, there’s been all sorts of things that have gone on at Leeside.  This video though gives the most comprehensive history and significance of the spot.

Hopefully this video will inspire you to go and check it out, even if you don’t skate or paint, it’s an amazing use of space.

2010 OLYMPIC COVERAGE: CURLING!

February 18, 2010

Had the pleasure of checking out a curling match today.  It was much more exciting that I had thought, there’s four games going on at once and well….check out these pants worn by the Norwegian team!

Oh..the Canadians lit up the Swedes bad….7 to 3…there have been sightings of them later in the day in Ikea’s cafeteria, weeping.

Anyone know if ‘Sweep the leg!’ is appropriate at a curling match?

MORE NIKE 6.0 RED LEDGE AT SEYMOUR!

February 10, 2010

A few days ago we posted this video montage of the reconstruction of the infamous ‘Red Ledge’ at Mount Seymour, part of Nike 6.0’s Greatest Hits Park Series.  Today we have more photos and a report back courtesy of Dano Pendygrasse:

Nike 6.0 understood that all the local snowboarders weren’t going to be able to watch the Olympic halfpipe live, or go to all the events, so they set out to do something cool that all Vancouver snowboarders could get down with in 2010. This Saturday was the first installation of the “Greatest Hits” park at Mt. Seymour. The idea is to bring some of the most iconic urban features together in one place for everyone to ride, and what’s more iconic than Quebec’s Red Ledge? After shipping it up and installing it earlier in the week  the gate was dropped for the public to come hit it.

Despite the fog and rain, a hundred or so skiers and snowboarders signed up and another 50 came to watch as the red ledge was christened. The level of riding was surprisingly high and the wet weather couldn’t dampen the spirits of the hardcore local crew. Nike 6.0 gave out dozens of prizes including enough shoes to last a year, and everyone ate their fill of free bbq.

The next big jam in the Greatest Hits park is February 20th where the infamous Burlington Vermont double set will be revealed.

MORE PHOTOS!

The two greatest powers of our time:
Indie Rock and Public Skating

February 7, 2010

If you’re into ice skating and indie rock you should get yer butt down to Robson Square tomorrow morning between 9:00 and 11:30am for CBC’s “R3 On Ice: Vancouver Edition“, where Grant Lawrence will be broadcasting live with a bunch of musicians. Open to the public!

Here’s the original R3 On Ice that went down in Toronto a couple years back…

ZIPPY!

February 5, 2010

I must admit that BC premier Gordon Campbell is probably the last person I would expect to see zipping by overhead on that free Robson Street Zipline. This is so awesome. Full story and plenty more pics HERE.
