Vancouver Is Awesome, and we are dedicated to everything that makes it that way.

If you want to read ugly, bad news about this beautiful city of ours, you’re going to have to look to traditional media and other blogs; V.I.A. promotes everything that makes our city awesome, from old to new and everything inbetween. We’re like the human interest piece on the news… only different.

UNPLUGGED Flickr Pickr: winter

February 23, 2013
Location: North Vancouver

This is what winter means to me, too. Stark, cold, stripped bare but standing strong, just waiting to come back to life.

Any day now.

Thanks, Lisa.

winter
It’s that point in your consciousness where you can feel at one with nature, escaping the trappings of the day-to-day to an almost dream-like place where nothing else seems to exist besides you and your natural surroundings. It is our opinion here at VIA that Vancouver holds a unique place in the civilized world in that reaching this state often requires no more effort than simply pulling off to the side of the road, pocketing your keys and taking a few steps into the forest

UNPLUGGED Flickr Pickr: 05/52

February 2, 2013
Location: Hollyburn @ Cypress Mountain, West Vancouver

Surreal, cinematic, downright creepy and definitely absolutely brilliant, this painstakingly (I’m sure) composed image of a cross-country skier emerging from the night jamp right off of my screen today and smacked me in the face. What a totally unusual way of seeing one of our beautiful local mountains, for us as well as for the photographer. Really excellent in so many ways.

Thanks, Billy!

Another eye-popper from Nathaniel. If it makes me say “wow” it ends up here.

Thanks for this one, I hope had a great day out there.

Daily Flickr Pickr – Day 365

January 6, 2011

Every day we share a single photo from our Flickr Pool shot by one of our faithful and talented readers (that’s you!).

Where does the time go? This is Day 365 of the Flickr Pickr – a full year’s worth of YOUR photos! Let’s take a quick peek at the time-line of events:

February 13th 2008: Vancouver Is Awesome goes live on the air

February 2009: Vancouver Is Awesome Flickr Pool created

February 9th 2009: first installment of The Photo of the Week, authored by Jennilee

September 4th 2009: after 20 installments, The Photo of the Week is expanded into the Daily Flickr Pickr, authored by none other than Bob K. himself

August 31st 2010: after 244 installments, Bob puts out a call to pass the torch, eventually selecting Dano

September 6th 2010: Dano makes his first of 103 posts in 103 days !

December 19th 2010: Yours truly entrusted with succeeding Dano, Bob and Jennilee as ‘the Pickr’ in the Daily Flickr Pickr

January 6th 2011: Day 365, VIA Flickr Pool now numbers 982 members and 9079 of YOUR photographs!

So, what photo do I pick for today? I feel like celebrating. How about some exploding lights courtesy of Linda Nguyen (who has a great Flickr handle in Linfinite)? Party time.

Thank you all for submitting to the pool. Let’s look forward to another 365 together.

Gary
