Trish Friesen from Tripstyler and I are now 4 deep in our travel panels that we do on Global’s 24 hour news station, BC1. We join Jill Krop in studio on her AM/BC program to discuss travel, and today we talked Camping vs Glamping! Watch the entire segment below.
You’ll notice that sitting right in front of me in the segment is a book, which is one of the Backroad Mapbooks shown below. I totally spaced but had meant to let viewers know that if they want to find spots like the ones I talked about, this is the source. They sent us the ones for every corner of the province, and the cool thing is that they’re meant for folks who really want to get off the beaten path as well as for folks who don’t want to go too far from it. Full of maps and reviews, there’s no better guide to touring the great outdoors in this province.

Backroad Mapbooks are celebrating their 20th anniversary right now and are giving away $20,000 worth of prizing. Click HERE to learn all about it.

With the Sasquatch Music Festival happening this past weekend in Washington, it feels like the start of the summer festival season. Between outdoor concerts in parks across the city, to out-of-town festivals, to free street parties, there is a LOT to take in in the coming months!
I’m going to attempt to run through them here…if you have another suggestion of a music-based festival happening this summer, please tweet me and I’ll add it into the list!
First up let’s start with Vancouver’s backyard, the Malkin Bowl in Stanley Park…lots to look forward to including Mother Mother playing an all ages show on the 15th of June, and the Sheepdogs on August 30th! Check out all the info by clicking here, and here’s a shot from concerts past: The Decemberists (thanks to Leigh Eldridge for the pic!):

Finally after 4 other posts (links above) I’m going to show you some of the awesome things you can do while in Tofino (you know, if you leave your amazing hotel/aren’t feasting every second of the day)…

The Tofino Brewing Company was actually my very first stop…my cabin wasn’t ready yet, so of course I went to get some supplies (and beer to bring back home to Vancouver…which I may or may not be drinking while I’m typing this).
Amazing people behind the counter and samples/growler fills/bottles for sale…what more could you ask for? It was a great way to start the trip!

The day that I arrived the town was actually having a little street festival (you know, because they paved the street!)… Who was I to argue with checking out the bouncy castle, cotton candy, live music, and roller derby girls demonstration!

Saturday morning I woke up to find out I’d be setting out on what turned out to be quite the adventure…whale watching with local company Jamie’s. It was a blustery day and my face below illustrates what I looked like when it rained sideways on my face, but …READ THE REST OF THIS ENTRY>>>

Okay, I’ve teased you for a few posts now, but it’s finally time to make your mouth water and show off what my trip was actually about…FEAST!

Feast Tofino runs from May 1 to May 31st, and includes events at various restaurants in the area, guests chef dinners, and the $29, $39, and $49 Dine About Town meals!
There are TONS of events happening over the next few weeks, which you can check out by CLICKING HERE, and below I’ll show you a few of the delicious meals that I had while in town!

So on my first evening in town I was guided around by the wonderful Bobby Lax, the Community Food Coordinator for the Tofino-Ucluelet Culinary Guild (which I’ll talk about in my next post!).
Our first stop was SOBO (which I learned stands for Sophisticated Bohemian), where I got to sample some of the best …READ THE REST OF THIS ENTRY>>>

So I told you about how to get to Tofino in my last post and today I get to share one of the places you can call home on your trip!
There are so many incredible places to stay in Tofino, and Bob has highlighted a few on his previous trips, but when I saw I would be staying at the Ocean Village Resort I was pretty excited…

They’re located on beautiful McKenzie Beach just a few minutes from the airport and downtown Tofino and have a wide range of housing options!
The cabins at Ocean Village are known for their “beehive” design, and are available in single-story 1-2 bedroom units or upper and lower studios. Each cabin features a private bathroom with a shower and full size tub, full kitchen, bed linens and towels, private entrance, private patio and …READ THE REST OF THIS ENTRY>>>
