Vancouver design veteran, Jonathan Mentzos is a partner at local idea studio, Thought Shop Creative. He’s a full-service kinda guy, with a background in TV, radio and print media. You’ve seen his work—the brand identities of Vancouver darlings JJ Bean and Grouse Mountain are just a couple of the feathers in his cap.

Amanda Froese is a connoisseur of quirk. The Cossette art director brings endless imagination to her brand and identity projects, and that creativity extends into every aspect of her life. She dabbles in craft, kitsch and cats, documenting much of it with fellow designer-slash-hubby Tom. Their fantastic blog offers a good dose of felines and free wallpapers and is worth a gander. A graduate of the Ontario College of Art & Design, Amanda has done work for beloved local brands including Vancouver Art Gallery, Museum of Vancouver and Coast Capital Savings.

WE ARE VANCVR: Rohit Tandon, Designer/Photographer

Vancouver is an amazing city, chock full of creative talent. WE ARE VANCVR is a simple, elegant way to showcase all that talent in one place. Every Tuesday we profile one individual from the VANCVR community.VANCVR.com is a Domain7 Labs project.

Rohit Tandon crafts thoughtful brands and has built a kick-ass design portfolio both on and offline. But in the tradition of great creatives, he has a finger in a few other pies as well—he’s also a DJ, a producer and a photographer.

Right after completing the Interaction Design Program, the SFU grad landed a gig at digital marketing powerhouse, Blast Radius. Four years later he took his arsenal of skills to local start-up A Thinking Ape where he serves as Art Director, with an emphasis on mobile products.

In his own words, Rohit is “a beer man, but won’t say no to a shot of tequila.” Read on to find out why he likes being a creative in Vancouver.

Brody Lahd is a young’un among vancvr‘s ever-expanding line-up of creatives, but this recent Art Institute grad has a clever portfolio that certainly sparked our imaginations. He’s making his place in our fine city—in his current role as designer at a print house, he may have found his foothold. Beyond design, Brody’s interests branch into other creative and Canadian endeavours: comic book and sneaker collecting, live music and, naturally, hockey! Read on to find out why he loves being a creative in Vancouver.

WE ARE VANCVR: Mélanie Kimmett, Illustrator & Designer

December 6, 2011
Vancouver is an amazing city, chock full of creative talent. WE ARE VANCVR is a simple, elegant way to showcase all that talent in one place. Every Tuesday we profile one individual from the VANCVR community.VANCVR.com is a Domain7 Labs project.

Mélanie Kimmett‘s illustrations are BIG in Vancouver. Really, really big. Chances are you’ve seen them splashed across the hulls of BC Ferries—at a whopping 500 feet long, they’re hard to miss. As one of the 2010 Olympic designers, her work had global reach, but the Toronto-native is now pretty happily rooted in Vancouver.

After her 3.5 years of making the Olympics look pretty, she’s branched out as an independent art director, illustrator and designer. When she’s not building brands for clients, she’s illustrating a (seriously adorable) line of greeting cards and challenging her own creativity at each turn. We were dually enamoured and inspired by her poster-a-day project which she kept up for a remarkable 218 days! Read on to find out why she loves being a creative in Vancouver.

WE ARE VANCVR: Sarah Reid, Designer

November 29, 2011
Vancouver is an amazing city, chock full of creative talent. WE ARE VANCVR is a simple, elegant way to showcase all that talent in one place. Every Tuesday we profile one individual from the VANCVR community.VANCVR.com is a Domain7 Labs project.

Graphic designers have a reputation for liking things neat and tidy, but Vancouver-based creative Sarah Reid has no scruples getting her hands a bit mucky. After nearly eight years as a designer for the Canadian Red Cross, where her designs were mostly conceived on screen, she has branched out on her own—freeing up time for making a mess in her studio. There she translates her love for music and style through screenprinting, upholstery and lovely hand-lettering. We fell for her clean illustrations and crisp typography. Check out her work, and find out why she likes being a creative in Vancouver, after the jump.
