WE ARE VANCVR: Nancy Wu, designer

September 6, 2011
Vancouver is an amazing city, chock full of creative talent. WE ARE VANCVR is a simple, elegant way to showcase all that talent in one place. Every Tuesday we profile one individual from the VANCVR community.VANCVR.com is a Domain7 Labs project, inspired by PRTLND.com.

Nancy Wu’s fingerprints are all over this fine city. This super talented designer has done work for Vancouver favourites like Earls, Westcoast Air and Coco et Olive. Somehow she balances being a pretty-big-deal designer, a wife (to AMAZING origami artists Joseph Wu—whose work you know from the Fairmont Pacific Rim), and a mom, while also contributing to a handful of blogs and teaching sessional courses at Emily Carr. phew! Read on to find out why she loves being a creative in Vancouver.

WE ARE VANCVR: Natasha Gorrie and Nikita Rusin, designers

August 30, 2011
Vancouver is an amazing city, chock full of creative talent. WE ARE VANCVR is a simple, elegant way to showcase all that talent in one place. Every Tuesday we profile one individual from the VANCVR community.VANCVR.com is a Domain7 Labs project, inspired by PRTLND.com.

Anyone who has visited VANCVR.com in the last month will recognize Nikita and Natasha from their epic avatars—and chances are if you work at any Vancouver agency, you’ve met with them at some point. Fact is they are just as fun and creative in real life as they appear. These two are serious about collaboration and reaching out to Vancouver’s creative community to do work in a diverse range of media. Which we think is just straight up cool.

What do you do?

For work, we do graphics and web design. For fun Nikita is a B Boy (break dancer) and Natasha is a professional dancer.

Why do you love being creative in Vancouver?

We love being creatives in Vancity because of the scenery. When it gets stressful in the office, lunch breaks consist of inspiring bike rides to get the creative juices flowing or a walk in the downtown East Side to see the contrasts of people and life.

How would you love to collaborate with local creatives?

We are always collaborating with local creatives. We both have friends and relationships with an array of talented artists in the city. We love to get our hands dirty with anything creative. Mixing graphics with dance along side with photography.

The possibilities are endless.

WE ARE VANCVR: Chris Wong, designer/developer

Chris Wong is one half of talented Vancouver creative duo, the Sum. Along with wife, Val Kan, he creates lovely websites, print pieces, identities and displays for cool clients like Vancouver New Music and the Vancouver Aquarium. Nice! They are also super cute and unafraid to let that shine through their work, as evidenced by the undeniably charming Sasquatch on their own website and their work below. Scroll down to find out why Chris likes being a creative in Vancouver.

WE ARE VANCVR: Trevor Meier, videographer

Trevor Meier is one of those annoyingly talented people who is good at pretty much everything. In university he earned a double major in Music and Computer Science. Then he picked up a camera and that went pretty well. And then he picked up a video camera and that went alright too. He’s since applied himself to directing and screenwriting, and once in a while he dabbles in design as well. No big deal. Scroll down to see some of his film and photography and to find out why he loves being a creative in Vancouver.

WE ARE VANCOUVER: Doug Avery, Designer & Developer

August 9, 2011
Vancouver is an amazing city, chock full of creative talent. WE ARE VANCVR is a simple, elegant way to showcase all that talent in one place. Every Tuesday we profile one individual from the VANCVR community.

VANCVR.com is a Domain7 Labs project, inspired by PRTLND.com.

Designer/Developer Doug Avery comes to our fine city from the east coast, and then a bit south of there—Arlington, VA. He settled in Vancouver nearly a year ago and has been busy making the city his creative hub, while still working for Virginia-based web agency, Viget. When he isn’t imagining ridiculous things you can do with CSS box shadows, he is possibly padding around town in his Vibram Fivefingers or birdwatching with his wife Mele at Stanley Park.

Scroll down to see his work and find out why he loves being a creative in Vancouver.

Dave Delnea makes some pretty amazing pictures. Flipping through his portfolio is a like viewing the most impressive travel journal your imagination can come up with. Check out his work and scroll down to find out why he likes to living and working in Vancouver.

What do you do?
I’m an advertising photographer

Why do you love being a creative in Vancouver?
There’s an excitement around the creative scene here that I find contagious. It’s a community of filmmakers, designers, photographers, writers, architects and other artists who are all pushing to create something interesting, and notable within their respective fields. I love being around people who are driven not just to be great at their craft, but who want to create work that pushes past some of the clichés of their industry—work that both challenges and inspires their peers.

How would you love to collaborate with other local creatives?
I’m constantly working to produce collaborative work (often incorporating a mix of creative approaches—from stills, to motion, to installation art). I love meeting with stylists, designers, filmmakers or other creatives to scheme about ways in which we can collaborate on projects—both personal and commercial (so get in touch).
