#TweettoEat: The last day

April 29, 2013

What an incredible two week experience I’ve had. Not only did I meet over 32 new people, 10+ people were surprised with coffee each day and about 6 old friends during this project, I learned a lot along the way. Not only is it important to put yourself out there are be a little uncomfortable from time to time, but it’s also so valuable to know where your food or who your food is coming from. Having an added layer of awareness with what you’re eating makes you appreciate and value your food so much more.

The people I have met over the last two weeks have shown me that taking a moment to share a meal or share food in some way, allows you to share a basic human necessity that connects us all. This basic connection opens you up to so much when you are meeting someone new. Some of the stories you have when you are sitting and eating with new people is outstanding. The way each of the people from my journey have opened up to me, has made me feel incredibly happy. I have been overwhelmed with joy the last two weeks and I credit all the people I have met who have let me in to their worlds.

The Last Day

Today was the last day and I was pretty sad about it, but headed over to Kits to meet for first friends Adam & Kev of Adam & Kev photography and of Playground.is (which is coming in Calgary and Edmonton in MAY make sure you sign up if you live in those cities! It’s an amazing evening of music and community collaboration @Playgroundis). We grabbed a coffee at 49th Parallel and chatted. It was nice to get a coffee since I didn’t have time to run over to @BeanOnMain20th this morning!

Brunch

Then I wandered down a few more blocks to @FableKitchen to meet @lloydgo. Well I thought I was just meeting Lloyd! It turned out to be 7 other amazing strangers who were all so wonderful, hilarious and ready to seriously drink on this #BoozyBrunch Sunday morning! We had a killer brunch and way more laughs than seems normal. Thank you for the best time! Yes, there may or may not have been morning shots happening!

#TweettoEat: Day 7

April 22, 2013

It’s officially been one week! One week down and another to go. What an experience it has been so far, and I wish I was doing it longer. It’s wonderful meeting so many great people.

Breakfast

This morning I made my way to The Bellagio Cafe at Robson and Hornby to meet @TheFelixKay for breakfast. I had never been here before, so I was excited to try something new. Felix is a hilarious and wonderful guy who writes for Vancity Buzz as well as many other publications. (You can find him on facebook here.) We had a great chat about work, personal brands and realized we are both Geminis! (I even guessed his exact birthday? It was incredibly random). I had an awesome egg white omelet and we drank the hell out of their coffee to try and combat our sleepiness. This is definitely someone I will hang out with again! Thanks for the great breakfast and fun chats Felix.

#TweettoEat: Day 4

April 19, 2013

Thursday came so quickly this week, didn’t it? Day 4 came and went pretty fast and it was another great one.

Coffee!

Just like every gorgeous day, I started it at Bean Around the World at Main and 20th (@BeanonMain20th), for my morning coffee and surprise and delight with another stranger. This morning it was the lovely, Reid that was standing in line behind me (had he not held the door for me, he would have been in front of me and that would have sucked for him!) I don’t know how, but it seems that each day there is a cute mid 20s – mid 30s man? I am so in to this! Take note, this is clearly a good spot for some attractive men watching on Main street.

The day was long and my lunch consisted of left over Filipino food from @Deedls and some carrots from the donated gift card from @MetropolisatMet.  I was looking forward to dinner in the evening with @KinseySS (Steve!) since we were going for one of my favorite foods, SUSHI!

#TweettoEat: Day 3

April 18, 2013

The third day! This morning I woke up slightly less sick than I was on Tuesday at the ripe ol’ hour of 6:30am to talk about #TweettoEat with The Early Show on CBC radio. Needless to say, coffee this morning was really calling my name.

Coffee!

As usual, I meandered over to Bean Around the World at Main and 20th (@BeanonMain20th), for my morning brew. I was able to surprise the wonderful Mike (as you can see below) with his coffee. In his morning daze, he thanked me and was very surprised. I just love this!

The rest of the day was full of wonderful food surprises at the office!

#TweettoEat: Day 2

April 17, 2013

It’s Tuesday! Day number two. Today is when things really get interesting.

Breakfast & Coffee

First stop of the morning, Bean Around the World at Main and 20th (@BeanonMain20th). These guys are amazing! They will be letting me surprise the person behind me with coffee every morning and keep me fueled! This morning, I got my coffee from the lovely Julia, and got to surprise Eric behind me! He was having a tired morning and was so happy to kick his day off to a great start. Plus, what a cutie! Don’t you agree, ladies?

Lunch

Today I decided to take some of the veggies from @KmKrebs and some of the great food that @Deedls made me and bring that for my lunch. I also grabbed an apple that I got from my @MetropolisatMet gift card.

Dinner

Having a potluck thrown in my honour is pretty special! I was really excited to meet up with @MegKuziw, her husband & her friends. I was still feeling pretty ill when I arrived, but was greeted by such friendly faces that my cold magically retreated slightly for the evening. Check out those walls (below). My personal favourite was “Never Kick A Fresh Turd on a Hot Day”. Megz and Rory met back in grade 9! They fell in love and got married at the age of 21 and are currently both doing amazing things! Megz volunteers twice a week in the DTES working with women in need and also volunteers at the SPCA and all of her pets are rescued. Rory is a plumber who has his own business that is doing really well. These two are only 24 years old! I was blown away by both of them.

#TweettoEat: Day 1

April 16, 2013

It’s Monday, day one, the scariest day! And then, guess what happened? I woke up feeling so sick, I needed to stay home. Can you believe this?

(Wondering what this #TweettoEat thing is? Read my first post here).

Luckily I had spent Sunday running around gathering food from friends and strangers, so I didn’t starve at home today.

Breakfast

I kicked the morning off with some yoghurt & strawberries donated graciously from @Metropolisatmet and banana from @androdesign. Such a perfect start to my day.

The rest of the day was a lot of sleeping, sneezing, waking up, tweeting and lunching on leftovers from last night’s feast with @HairbyKatieRose and @the_bradford!
