It's a good time to be a plant-based eater in Vancouver, thanks to what seems like an ever-expanding range of options for meals, snacks, drinks, and treats.
There are three Vancouver-born restaurants, though, that are not only very veg-friendly, but are also growing their reach by adding multiple new locations.
MeeT
Featuring vegetarian and vegan comfort food (think burgers you need a stack of napkins to tackle and a signature fried cauliflower dish), MeeT began on Main with their first restaurant in 2014, before opening a second location in Gastown two years later. Now a third location, this one in Yaletown, is set to open by the end of 2017, giving veg fans three places to MeeT and eat.
Locations: 12 Water Street; 4288 Main Street; 1165 Mainland Street (opening soon)
Heirloom Vegetarian
It's been more of a slow burn for the expansion of Heirloom. The vegetarian and vegan restaurant's South Granville location has been going strong and steady for a few years now, always pleasing fans with their food and drink. Though they did open an off-shoot juice window, the real growth is about to unfold, as they prep at least two new locations: one in West Vancouver at Ambleside, and one on Main Street. It's looking like 2018 opens for them both.
Locations: 1509 West 12th Avenue; Ambleside - West Vancouver (opening 2018); Main St at 20th (opening 2018)
Virtuous Pie
Who knew that a vegan pizza joint would capture so many ominivore hearts? And yet that's just what the all plant-based Virtuous Pie did earlier this year with their clever pies featuring big flavours and their housemade nut cheeses. They've already taken the big cross-border leap and opened up in Portland, Oregon, and they've got a Toronto location and a second Vancouver location in the works.
Locations: 583 Main Street; 3339 Shrum Lane - UBC Wesbrook Village (opening soon)
