Last month, news broke that Translink was testing new Compass wristbands as an alternative to the traditional Compass Card.
Now, the first wearable payment option will become available to Lower Mainland riders starting on Monday, Dec. 3.
The wristbands work the same as a Compass Card - you simply tap in and out when travelling on transit. When it comes time to reload, you may do so online, at a Compass Vending Machine, by phone or in person.
Customers using a wristband must tap the portion with the contactless symbol. Just like a Compass Card, a $6 refundable fee is charged when you pick up your wristband.
TransLink is introducing its first wearable payment option in order to make taking transit as comfortable and convenient as possible.
To start, TransLink is offering 1,000 blue adult wristbands and 1,000 orange concession wristbands. As such, they are only offering this limited release to gauge interest; they will provide more of them early next year if needed.
Visit the Compass Customer Service Centre at Stadium–Chinatown Station (Monday - Friday 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.) or the West Coast Express Office in Waterfront Station (Monday - Friday 6:45 a.m. to 6 p.m.) to pick up a wristband while supplies last.
TransLink also introduced a Tap-to-Pay system earlier this year, which allows riders to tap their Visa, Mastercard or mobile wallet at the fare gates or on buses rather than loading a Compass Card.
