Historic Hotels Worldwide has just inducted 75 new properties into its exclusive list and the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver was among them.
A total of 75 properties representing independent hotels from four continents and 20 countries have been inducted into the group, with the majority coming from Europe.
France had the largest number of inductees, with a whopping 18 hotels, followed by the UK with 13 and Canada with 12.
What's more, all of the Canadian inductees are Fairmont-branded hotels. The Fairmont selections span across Canada, from Vancouver to Montreal.
In order to be considered for inclusion into the group, hotels must meet a long list of criteria that include: be at least 75 years of age; utilize historic accommodations; serve as the former home or be located on the grounds of the former home of famous persons or significant location for an important event in history; or be located in or within walking distance to a historic district, historically significant landmark, place of historic event, or a historic city centre.
The property must also be recognized by a local preservation organization or national trust and display historic memorabilia, artwork and photography.
