"Take a walk on the wild side."
Canada was recently named among the best destinations for wildlife enthusiasts in a recent global index that focuses on environmental sustainability, prosperity and conservation.
Compiled by True Luxury Travel, the Global Wildlife Travel index used a number of factors to determine the ranking including megafauna conservation, wildlife species, prevalence of national parks, national parks pioneers, protected natural areas, forest area, environmental sustainability, and environmental prosperity. From there, each country received a score of one to five in each category, and the scores were then added up. The best possible score was 40 points.
Finland took the top spot with 33 points, with report authors noting the country's, "high levels of environmental sustainability, its unique and varied diversity of species, beautiful natural landscapes, and conservation efforts."
Sweden came in second with 33 points, with Brazil ranking third with 32 points. Canada ranked fourth with 31 points, and the United States placed fifth with 31.
Where there was a draw in the total score the index used environmental prosperity as the ranking factor.
