UPDATE: Weaver is not seeking re-election, and is calling for a leadership contest. Read our story HERE.

On Saturday the B.C. Greens let media know they'd be making a "significant announcement" at 9:15 a.m. this morning, causing much speculation on B.C. politics Twitter (#bcpoli) over the weekend.

This morning the Globe and Mail published a scoop from "an official close to Mr. Weaver" saying that he's going to be announcing that he's stepping down as the leader of the party.

Last month the leader whose party holds the balance of power in the legislature announced that he was reducing his workload after being diagnosed with labyrinthitis, an inner ear disorder.

According to the Globe's report, while he is stepping down as leader he will apparently still be keeping his seat in the legislature.

So there likely won't be an early election called.
