Canadian hip hop star Drake is joining forces with a big Metro Vancouver-area marijuana producer.

Canopy Growth Corp. announced a new venture with the singer to sell recreational cannabis and accessories in Canada and overseas.

Drake will own 60 per cent of the venture, called More Life Growth Co., with Canopy, the largest cannabis producer in Canada, owning the remaining stake.

"The opportunity to partner with a world-class company like Canopy Growth on a global scale is really exciting,” Drake said in a statement. “The idea of being able to build something special in an industry that is ever growing has been inspiring."

More Life will take over a licensed Scarborough, Ont.-based cannabis production facility but Canopy will continue to operate it.

In advance of the legalization of recreational pot in this country, Canopy partnered with SunSelect Produce, which has a 1.7-million-square-foot greenhouse on Hornby Drive in East Delta, to create a new venture called B.C. Tweed. It’s one of the biggest cannabis greenhouses in the world.

The partnership also has 1.3 million square feet of SunSelect greenhouse space in Langley.

Canopy Growth Corp. has other high-profile celebrity connections including with rapper Snoop Dogg.
