A 10-year-old girl is OK but likely shaken after an incident this weekend.
She and her family had recently arrived from Mexico to Canada; the place they've moved into has a broken stove, so on Saturday morning (March 6) they went out to buy breakfast.
They were outside a restaurant on the 200-block of Keefer Street, waiting in line to get food. The girl was going to make the purchase and had money in her pocket when a woman approached, according to a police press release.
The woman reached inside the girl's jacket and grabbed a $50 bill.
When the girl tried to chase her attacker to get the money back, the suspect allegedly elbowed the girl in the face, splitting her lip and causing a nose bleed.
Luckily, the people in the area called 911 and kept the woman from leaving.
"Police officers arrested the suspect for robbery and took her to jail. The $50 bill was recovered," states the release. "Paramedics treated the girl and her father took her home."
When officers looking into the incident learned about the back story, they collected over $200 to donate to the family.
