The baby otter being cared for by the Vancouver Aquarium Marine Mammal Rescue Society has been named Tofino.

Vancouver's cutest resident (at least for now) has a new name.

The sea otter pup was brought to the Vancouver Aquarium Marine Mammal Rescue Society (MMRS) in June has been named after a social media campaign.

She's been named Tofino.

The name comes from the town near which she was found on June 18. Department of Fisheries and Oceans experts brought her in after watching her for a while and observing no mother sea otter came to take care of her.

Tofino has been getting 24/7 care for the last couple of weeks by MMRS staff and volunteers. The society, via its patient page for the little otter, has been tracking her progress as she grows stronger.

While she's currently living in the MMRS Vancouver site, her long term destination is unknown. A decision will be made in the future as to whether she'll be released into the wild or remain under human care. Previous otters who've come through the MMRS, like Quatse and Joey, have moved in to the Vancouver Aquarium.

To help care for Tofino the not-for-profit MMRS is fundraising.
