... I have yet to see a Piggy-wig with a ring on the end of his nose (his nose) in Stanley Park, but if and when I do I will be sure to write about it here. (With apologies to Edward Lear and The Owl and the Pussycat.)
However, a recent walk around the glorious loop that is Lost Lagoon did reveal some new wonders, namely two (!) enormous swan nests on the southern edge of the lagoon and turtles, which I don't recall ever having seen there before.

Both of the nests are very close to the shore and have had protective mesh fencing put up to protect them.

I call this one "Fence Me In."
These turtles were sunning themselves on the north side of the lagoon.
The Stanley Park Ecology Society operates in the old boat house at the lagoon and is a great way to learn about the ecology of the park. They have open houses on the week-end (10:00 am - 4:00 pm, admission by donation) and are very kid friendly. Even if you can't make it out during the week-end, if you have children in your life you may want to explore the lagoon with them - the nests are huge and you can actually get quite close to them.
And of course ... spring flowers!
