Massive lineups form for TransLink’s new ‘Compass Mini’ cards

TransLink has announced that it will be limiting the number of Compass Mini cards to two per person while supplies last due to high demand.

On Dec. 5, the transit authority announced that it would be expanding payment options with the introduction of the Compass Mini on Dec. 6. It stated that it would be releasing 5,000 blue adult Minis and 2,500 orange concession Minis.

Customers looking to purchase Minis were met with long waits, however, as crowds of people lined up early for the new payment product. In response, TransLink stated that it would be limiting the number of Minis to two per person.

On Twitter, @Sarah_Anne_617 remarked how she’d, “Been in the queue for an hour waiting for the mini compass keychain available this morning at Waterfront station.”

TransLink states that the Compass Mini works the same as the Compass Card and Compass Wristband. Riders simply tap in and out when travelling on transit and reload online, at a Compass Vending Machine, by phone, or in person. Of course, just like the other Compass products, there is a $6 refundable deposit when purchasing a new Mini.​​​​​​

Visit the Compass Customer Service Centre at Stadium–Chinatown Station (Monday – Friday 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, December 7, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) or the West Coast Express Office in Waterfront Station (Monday – Friday 6:45 a.m. to 6 p.m.) to pick up a Mini while supplies last.
