'Tis the season -- to keep your umbrella with you at all times in Metro Vancouver.

The next few days will be no exception, with the forecast calling for significant periods of heavy rainfall.

Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for parts of the region, which includes West Vancouver and North Vancouver.

In a weather alert issued Wednesday evening, the national weather department states that "A moist Pacific frontal system will approach the south coast on Friday bringing heavy rain to the North Shore and Howe Sound regions."

The alert notes that the heavy rain will begin early Friday morning and continue through Friday night. In total, 50 to 70 mm of rainfall are expected by Saturday morning.

The department adds that heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.
