The reconstruction of the Sea to Sky Gondola hit another milestone after 30 new cabins were delivered to the facility from Switzerland on Dec. 10.
It’s one of the latest big steps towards re-establishing the popular tourist attraction since the cable was cut in August, causing a number of cabins to fall.
Previously, as part of the effort to rebuild the facility, a new haul rope was installed, and some of the old cabins that were not affected by the fall were inspected and given the greenlight to go back into service.
The gondola says the new cabins were manufactured by CWA Constructions and are the same model as what they currently have.
These cabins accommodate eight guests and are accessible for both wheelchairs and strollers.
Crews will begin with begin to assemble the new cabins, in addition to the ongoing work on lift repairs, maintenance and security system enhancements, the company says.
