Update: In a media release on November 15, Powell River RCMP included a correction related to the previous week's report which stated that a hunter was charged with a Wildlife Act offence. The matter was referred to the Conservation Officer Service, which followed up and determined the female hunter had not violated any law so no violation ticket was issued, according to the release. RCMP also apologized to all involved for the original inaccuracy.

November 10 media release:
In the afternoon on November 4, Texada Island RCMP received a report that there was a woman hunting in a closed area in Pocohontas Bay on Texada. The caller informed the woman that she was not allowed to hunt so close to the road and the woman left.
Police consulted with the local conservation officer, who confirmed that hunters must be 25 metres off the road and pointing in a direction away from the road at all times. The following morning, the female hunter phoned Texada RCMP and admitted that she was hunting approximately two metres off the road. The hunter was issued a violation ticket, contrary to the Wildlife Act, which carries a fine of $345.
Powell River RCMP, Texada RCMP and the Conservation Officer Service is reminding all hunters that it is their responsibility to know and abide by all laws set out in the Wildlife Act.
