It’s unclear if the fatal shooting in east Richmond this past weekend is related to four other shooting incidents that happened in Metro Vancouver on Saturday.
Richmond RCMP was called to a scene of an “unresponsive male found in the ditch” where around 9:30 a.m. on August 7. The man was suspected of being killed during a shooting incident.
On the same day, four other reports of shots being fired occurred in Surrey and Delta.
According to Surrey RCMP, the Surrey incidents happened at the following times and location:
- 6900 block of 127A Street at 8:19 p.m.
- 12900 block of 73A Avenue at 10:27 p.m.
- 6600 block of 132 Street at 10:56 p.m.
Meanwhile, Delta police said shots were fired on Saturday night around 11:30 p.m. in the 7900-block of 114A Street.
A 28-year-old male suspect in now in custody in relation to the Surrey and Delta incidents, which are not believed to be linked to the Lower Mainland gang conflict, explained Surrey RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Vanessa Munn.
However, there has been no comment from police on the Richmond shooting as to whether it is gang related or connected to the other Saturday shootings.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is working with local police investigating the fatality.
