Around 98,000 speakers made by audio electronics company Bose and sold in Canada are part of a global recall.
The speakers, under the Acoustimass, Lifestyle, and Companion names, have electrical components that can fail, melt and ignite causing a fire hazard, according to a recall notice from Health Canada.
"If your bass module is included in the recall, please stop using it and unplug it from the electrical socket immediately," states Bose on its website.
Around one million units were sold in Canada, the U.S. and Mexico between 1994 and 2007. There have been no reports to date of fires in Canada related to the speakers, but 17 incidents were reported in the U.S.
"The company has received 21 reports globally of the bass modules igniting or melting including three reports of property damage," states the notice.
Which speakers
The speakers recalled were sold with home theatre systems and may be black or white. All speakers will have the Bose brand on the front.
There are two types of Bose modules being recalled, with 27 different speaker types.

Repair or replace
Bose is offering free repairs of the speakers, or a 40 per cent discount on a replacement product.
