Daily COVID-19 numbers continue to fall, as the number of British Columbians vaccinated against COVID-19 hits 78%.
There were 87 new cases of COVID-19 and three deaths since Friday, the B.C. provincial health office reports. There were 30 new cases between Friday and Saturday, 37 between Saturday and Sunday and 20 new cases since Sunday. That brings the total infection rate in B.C. since the pandemic began to to 147,790.
There are currently 652 actives cases in B.C., with 85 people in hospital and 22 patients in intensive care. A total of 145,362 people who tested positive have recovered.
As of Monday, July 6, 78% of British Columbians 12 and older have been vaccinated against COVID-19, with 36% fully vaccinated with two doses. A total of 5,288,644 doses of one of three approved vaccines have been administered in B.C.
Despite the increasing number of people vaccinated in B.C., there continue to be outbreaks at hospitals and long-term care homes, as well as deaths.
There are currently active outbreaks at Laurel Place in the Fraser Health region and Rotary Manor Dawson Creek, in the Northern Health region. There are outbreaks in three hospitals: Eagle Ridge Hospital, Royal Inland Hospital and Surrey Memorial Hospital.
