A new grocery store is coming to town in Burnaby: PriceSmart Foods.
Signage has gone up at the store’s future location at the City of Lougheed development at the corner of Austin Road and Grande Promenade.
It will be the second PriceSmart in Burnaby and the third in Metro Vancouver, with locations at Station Square (4650 Kingsway) and Richmond (8200 Ackroyd Rd.).
“We are thrilled to welcome PriceSmart Foods to the City of Lougheed,” Tamara Tasaka, vice-president of corporate marketing at developer Shape Properties, told the NOW in a statement.
“Their arrival marks a huge milestone for the development, offering a highly anticipated amenity for the community. As the City of Lougheed evolves, PriceSmart is well positioned to meet the growing demand for high-quality food offerings on-site and in the surrounding area.”
PriceSmart is a brand of Jim Pattison-owned Overwaitea Food Group, which owns Save-On-Foods and Urban Fare.
When the Station Square PriceSmart opened in 2015, it was described in a press release as “a full Asian supermarket concept,” with high-quality items sourced directly from Asia.
The NOW reached out to PriceSmart Foods for more information but did not hear back by publication deadline.
Renters moved into Tower 4 of the development in September, and homeowners are expected to move into Towers 1 and 2 this year.
The PriceSmart’s opening date is not yet released.
Correction: An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated Tamara Tasaka's title. The correct title is vice-president.
