I recently wrote THIS POST about the run that our Community Sponsor, TELUS, took me on with the COO of Fitness Town, Dai Manuel, to show off the features of the new Galaxy Gear Fit device. I focused heavily on the wearable tech that tracks fitness, heart rate etc, and how it connected to my new Galaxy S5. What I didn't mention is that the GS5 phone itself is fully waterproof. As in not only can you feel safe using during any season in Vancouver but if you're a lunatic you might actually risk it and take it in the water for some cool videos.
Like this one I shot this weekend. WHOA!
I shot this video and a few others then about a half an hour later uploaded to Instagram a little worried that it could've leaked a bit and I'd wake to a wrecked phone this morning, but it's still working fine today. HOWEVER (and this is a big however) I called Samsung and asked if putting it in the water is covered by the warranty and was told that these sorts of hijinks are ABSOLUTELY NOT COVERED. The phone is water "resistant" and not water "proof", so if you've got one be forewarned that doing dumb-but-cool stuff like this could result in you wrecking your fancy new water resistant phone, and that'll be nobody's fault but your own.
